ODC Theater to Kick Off Walking Distance Dance Festival, 5/31 by BWW News Desk - May 13, 2013
ODC Theater's annual fringe-style festival returns for a second year with samplings of contemporary dance from around the nation. Over two days, Friday, May 31 - Saturday, June 1, 2013 the Festival will feature three separate programs designed to spark conversation. This year's superb roster of artists includes Brian Brooks Moving Company; casebolt and smith; Nicole Klaymoon's Embodiment Project; ODC/Dance; Rachael Lincoln and Leslie Seiters; Kate Weare and Company; and Scott Wells and Dancers. Regional Dance Company of the Week: Repertory Dance Theater, UT by BWW Special Coverage - Apr 16, 2013
Utah's Repertory Dance Theatre was founded in 1966 as a fully-professional modern dance company through a cooperative effort involving the Salt Lake City community, the University of Utah and a major grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. This partnership was created to establish a company which would keep alive that unique, artistic achievement which is American Modern Dance. (more...)

Dance Currents, Inc. is presenting 'Charge the Air' at Green Street Studios Sunday May 12th at 2 pm. This event is the third in a series of Sunday afternoon concerts, presented by Dance Currents Inc. for their 2012-2013 season. 'Charge the Air' will be an afternoon of live music and dance including pieces from Dance Currents' repertory, new dances by Kathy Hassinger and Alison Smith, a graduate of the Masters program in Choreography from Laban Contemporary Dance, and the music of Saint Saens, Fantaisie played live by flutist Yuji Kano, and harpist, Morton Mason. Photos: UC Berkeley Presents 4 New Dance Works in 'Berkeley Dance Project 2013: Aperture'; Thru 4/28 by BWW News Desk - Mar 28, 2013
From 1964-68, Famed photographer Ansel Adams spent time at the University of California on a groundbreaking photographic project commissioned by UC President Clark Kerr. At its core the project, entitled Fiat Lux (Let There Be Light, the University of California motto) asked Adams to answer the question "How can we imagine our future?" Over the course of the project, Adams took thousands of photos of the entire UC system, culminating in a published book written by Nancy Newhall in 1967, which was revisited in a full-year, campuswide multimedia exploration of Adams' work this year called On the Same Page. Berkeley Playhouse continues its fifth season with the Tony Award-winning GUYS AND DOLLS. Jon Tracy (Berkeley Playhouse, Aurora Theatre Company, Shotgun Players, San Francisco Playhouse, Magic Theatre) helms this musical from the Golden Age of Broadway, featuring a cast of 22, and choreography by Chris Black (Berkeley Playhouse, Aurora Theatre Company).
