The National New Play Network Announces 30th Rolling World Premiere: GUAPA by Caridad Svich

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the countryÂ’s alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 30th Rolling World Premiere: Caridad SvichÂ’s Guapa will receive three productions through the NetworkÂ’s Continued Life of New Plays Fund in the 2012/13 season, the NetworkÂ’s 15th. 5th Anniversary Season at the Broad Stage Set to Include Luciana Souza, Dulce Rosa et al.

After raising L.A.'s cultural pulse with new productions attracting critical acclaim, The Eli & Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center had unveiled its vision for the future and announced its 5th Anniversary Season beginning on September 1, 2012 with the Brazilian jazz singer Luciana Souza. Highlights of the expanded season include world premieres from today's most relevant companies and artists in dance, theater, and music from around the world; artistic partnerships with London's Menier Chocolate Factory, the Los Angeles Opera, and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre; the 4th Annual Westside Jazz Experience featuring stars such as Pat Metheny, Rickie Lee Jones, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds; a return of family programs including a hit from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; and artists direct from Brazil, Cuba, Europe, and across the U.S. (more...)

Main Street Theatre will participate in international reading project marking the two-year anniversary of the Deepwater Horizon BP oil spill in a free reading of THE WAY OF THE WATER by Caridad Svich on April 30, 2012 at 7:30pm in the MST – Chelsea Market. An initial line-up of organizations that will present 2011 American Theatre Critics Association Francesca Primus Prize winning playwright Caridad SvichÂ’s new play THE WAY OF THE WATER has been announced. This work, which is about the aftermath of the Deepwater Horizon BP oil spill and its effects on human health and the environment in the US Gulf region, is being made available for local presentations during the month of April (and selected venues in May) to mark the two-year anniversary of the spill and to raise increased awareness toward health and environmental concerns, by NoPassport theatre alliance & press, an unincorporated collective dedicated to the advocacy, production and publication of works expressive of cross-cultural and aesthetic diversity in the arts.
