New York-based Cabaret producer, performer, promoter, and former reviewer (for Cabaret Scenes Magazine and BroadwayWorld.com) Stephen Hanks is in the midst of a serious love-hate relationship. He loves the art form of Cabaret and hates the dramatic rise of voter suppression and white supremacy in America during the current Republican Party rule of all three branches of the United States Government. So with the November 2018 Midterm elections on the horizon, Hanks has decided to combine the objects of his love and his hate and channel that energy into political action on behalf of the Democratic and Progressive candidates running for the US Senate, the House of Representatives, and perhaps some state governorships in November.

'MY SHIP is built up of songs composed and published in 1941. 76 years ago these songs were comforting the hearts and minds of women from that time: young brides married to soldiers headed off to fight in WW2, conventional house wives raising children alone, factory workers like Rosie the Riveter, and the entertainers passionately at work to raise the moral of AMERICA through this beautiful music.'

Dawn Derow sang Irving Berlin's White Christmas this November afternoon and made it work, just as she made a collection of songs from 1941 work in her show titled MY SHIP.

Francesca Capetta, who just performed at Carnegie Hall in her sold-out solo show 'Francesca Capetta sings Dean Martin: A Centennial Celebration' with Tony Winner Liliane Montevecchi and cabaret singer Stacy Sullivan, will be starring in the leading role of the new musical about Maria Montessori 'La Dottoressa.'

Singer Linda Glick has been described as 'full of grace and dignity, leavened by a touch of continental cynicism' (Backstage, Eric Haagensen). She will unveil her newest cabaret show, 'Teach Me Tonight,' from October 18 to November 10 at Pangea Restaurant & Supper Club, 178 Second Ave. (betw. 11th & 12th Streets).

Sing Me a Story! , a celebration of the art of the 'story song', makes its world premiere from October 6-8 at the Bridge Street Theatre in Catskill as the final installment in its 2017 Cabaret Series. With a cast that features concert, recording, and stage stars Lisa Asher, Scott Coulter, and Tom Andersen, plus musical director Ian Herman, this new revue trains a spotlight on a very specific type of song one that tells a story.

One of the country's most vibrant eras in music, in general and especially for women, was the 1960s, filled to the brim with girl groups like The Chantels and The Supremes, folk pioneers like Joan Baez, and songwriters so influential that, decades later, that musical written about them keeps filling its Broadway house to capacity for close to four years (Carole King, of course). In the midst of political and public unrest, in a male-dominated world and industry, these women made space and carved out their own spots in music history. Who better to spotlight these singers and songwriters than Carole J. Bufford, who has carved out her own spot within the New York cabaret scene as an enthusiastic and rich interpreter of the Jazz Age songbook, and returned to the circuit with something a little different: YOU DON'T OWN ME: THE FEARLESS FEMALES OF THE 1960S, a celebration of the 'bold and daring women [who] planted their flags and ensured their voices were heard.' And as it turns out, it's not only Bufford's most fearless show, but also one of her best.

Someone once asked me what the key is to a good cabaret performance. My answer? First, the performer should be an experienced actor and really know him or herself in depth. He must separate his own personality from every role played on stage. Cabaret audiences want to see something special, a glow from the inside that makes the person take hold of the moment and run with it. Nobody does this better than Donna McKechnie, Tony Award winner for A Chorus Line, whose vibrant persona adds warmth to every moment that she is in our presence. To me she is practically the same off stage as on; maybe that's the key, just being your true joyful self.

This performance celebrates the 100th birthday of Italian-American entertainer Dean Martin. The show, written and performed by Francesca Capetta, features Tony Award-winner Liliane Montevecchi (Broadway: Nine {Tony and Drama Desk Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical}, Grand Hotel {Tony Nomination}, Le Plume de Ma Tante.
