NYMF Announces 2008 'Best of Fest' Award Winners

The New York Musical Theater Festival concluded its fifth season on October 5th having presented 241 performances over the course of 21 days. A record-breaking 25,000 people, selling the festival to 87.5% of capacity, attended the festival. Over 75% of productions had sold-out performances, and 11 productions extended their runs to accommodate demand. ( more...)

It hadn't really occurred to me to write a musical until I was working on this sitcom pitch for Paramount called "George and the Guys." "George and the Guys" was based on my friend Nicholle's dad George who was going through a rough patch with his wife, had been booted out of the house, and the only home he could find was as the 4th roommate of three 20-somethings on his pickup basketball team. New York Musical Theatre Festival will present the World Premiere of Richard Rodgers Award finalist SHE CAN'T BELIEVE SHE SAID THAT!, a new musical about the rise and fall and fall and rise of Kathie Lee Gifford. If ever there were a time to make a strong argument in support of public broadcast television, today would be the day, as the vultures are circling. With government funding getting slashed quicker than George Bush's approval ratings can drop, and The New York Times posing questions like, "is PBS still necessary?" perhaps only Stephen Sondheim can mount a worthy fight. PBS' Great Performances to Air 'Company' Revival
