!!FreEpLaY!! is Strike AnywhereÂ’s monthly improvised performance series at the Brecht Forum. The June show is the final show in SAÂ’s 2011-2012 season. The evening features SA's interdisciplinary ensemble of world-class musicians, dancers, and actors spontaneously spinning performance pieces. Part performance, part creativity lab, the ensemble steps into the unknown, creating art in the moment, allowing intuition, the sounds of the room and audience suggestion to guide what they play. The ensemble is known for their use of Soundpainting, the sign language for conducted improvisation which allows a conductor/composer to sculpt an improvisation while it is in motion. The June show will feature the full ensemble in a series of improvisations, including a few Soundpaintings and there will be games and giveaways. (more...)

Double Play Connections and Doing Life Productions, Jane Dubin, Executive Producer, and Director Brent Buell, collaborators on Antigua-born poet, author, painter, and playwright Iyaba Ibo Mandingo’s unFRAMED: A Man in Progress, are fostering relationships and communication by participating in community driven programming. Dubin, Buell and Mandingo have stepped outside the theater to “continue the conversation we start with this powerful show,” says Dubin, a TONY award-winning producer. The three have been seen connecting with many different communities – making African masks with an afterschool class in Newburgh, NY; writing poetry with the women in residence and the high school girls at the YWCA White Plains; to presenting the play to over 200 prisoners and staff inside Sing Sing Correctional Facility. INTAR (Lou Moreno, Artistic Director/John McCormack, Executive Director) will present American Jornalero, a new play written by Ed Cardona, Jr., directed by Mariana Carreño-King, beginning performances Off-Broadway tomorrow, May 3rd, and continuing through June 3rd only, at INTAR (500 West 52nd Street at Tenth Avenue, on the 4th Floor).
