La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce the fifth production of National Theatre Live's second season - broadcast live from The Donmar Warehouse in London, internationally acclaimed actor Derek Jacobi stars as KING LEAR. KING LEAR will be broadcast on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20 at 2pm at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd. in La Mirada.

National Theatre Features Stephens, Amuka-Bird & Harewood in 2010 Productions

The National Theatre has announced casting for its upcoming productions, starting with Moira Buffini's WELCOME TO THEBES which will run starting June 15. Nikki Amuka-Bird and David Harewood will star in the World Premiere of the play, which tells the Greek myth of the first democratically elected president of Thebes in a modernized way. The show will be directed by Richard Eyre and the cast will also feature Madeline Appiah, Rakie Ayola, Omar Brown, Jessie Burton, Jacqueline Defferary, Daniel Fine, Karlina Grace, Rene Gray, Tracy Ifeachor, Irma Inniss, Chuk Iwuji, Alexia Khadime, Ferdinand Kingsley, Aicha Kossoko, Simon Manyonda, Bruce Myers, Pamela Nomvete, Calre Perkins, Victor Power, Daniel Poyser, Joy Richardson, Vinette Robinson, Zara Tempest-Walters, and Michael Wildman.

'Season Your Admiration' HAMLET Recoups on Broadway

The Donmar Warehouse production of Hamlet, starring Jude Law and directed by Michael Grandage, has fully recouped its $2.5 million capitalization costs as of the week ending November 1, officially entering the hit column. The production, which began performances on September 12 and opened October 6, is playing a limited run through Sunday, December 6 only at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 West 44th Street). (more...)

HAMLET, starring Jude Law, joined Broadway's top 10 highest grossing shows for the week ending October 18. The production, directed by Michael Grandage, earned $904,914, its best week yet at the box office. If you're a frequent theatre-goer who has seen a decent number of Hamlets, or just a decent number of contemporary Shakespeare productions, chances are you'll get that old feeling of déjà vu watching Michael Grandage's Donmar Warehouse import, now parked at the Broadhurst for a limited run. While the mounting has its highs and lows, several directorial choices - once considered edgy, now pretty standard - keep this Hamlet draped in familiarity. The evening is lean, professional, fast-moving and not particularly interesting. (more...)
