The upcoming broadcast season is undoubtedly going to be a good one. At least a whole lot better than the current slate of programming (most networks have ditched their 2012-2013 additions). NBC, CBS, Fox, and ABC have managed to enlist some major talent to headline their new shows for the 2013-2014 lineup, and are now in the process of announcing their pick-ups. It's a rarity for execs to land such names as Rebel Wilson, Gillian Anderson, Robin Williams, Allison Janney, Anna Faris, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Greg Kinnear at all - let alone all for new series in one year. Today we are talking to a tremendously talented triple-threat who headlined the 2007 feature film adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical HAIRSPRAY as Tracy Turnblad and who will be appearing in a recurring role on SMASH Season Two starting tonight - the spunky and adorable Nikki Blonsky. In this all-encompassing conversation, Blonsky and I dissect the HAIRSPRAY phenomenon and she reveals her affection for collaborators such as director Adam Shankman, co-stars John Travolta and Christopher Walken, as well as two more pairs of instrumental creative team members: songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman as well as producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, all four of whom serve the same roles on SMASH. Of course, Blonsky reveals details about her new SMASH character and what we can expect from her multi-episode arc, as well as her experiences sharing the small screen with Anjelica Huston, Christian Borle, Debra Messing and more. Gary Valentine got his start in show business on the stand up comedy stage. After an appearance at the Montreal Comedy Festival, he left his native New York for heavier traffic in Los Angeles. There, he quickly landed spots on various talk shows including, "The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno", among others.
