The U.K.'s Daily Mail reports that producing maestro Cameron Mackintosh is developing a new Musical based on the film A Private Affair, renamed Betty Blue Eyes. The musical adaptation has been named in honor of the Queen of England and porker. It will be performed for her upcoming Queen's Diamond Juibilee celebration. (more...)

Performed by Simon Green with musical arrangement and accompaniment by David Shrubsole, SIMON GREEN TRAVELING LIGHT begins performances on Tuesday, December 15 for a limited engagement through Sunday, January 3. Press opening is Sunday, December 20 at 7:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday at 7:30, Wednesday - Friday at 8:30 PM; Saturday at 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Four actors that are currently appearing in the West Coast premiere of 'Mary Poppins' (which is being presented at the Center Theatre Group/Ahmanson Theatre) will perform songs from Broadway's perfectly magical musical in a special free performance at The Grove in Los Angeles on Friday, December 4, 2009, at 3 p.m. Gail Bennett, playing the role of Mary Poppins, and Dominic Roberts, playing the role of Bert, will be joined by Katie Balen and Carter Thomas who play Jane and Michael Banks (respectively). Timeless and Timely 'Mary Poppins' Premieres in Los Angeles

Many people rightly consider "Mary Poppins" a timeless classic. Well, with the new musical's Los Angeles premiere Sunday night at the Ahmanson Theater, you can also call it timely. While it first premiered in London five years ago in a very different economic and social climate, seeing it now, amidst the current economic crisis and the want to go 'back to basics', the stage musical seems more appropriate, meaningful and heartfelt. We could all use a little "Mary Poppins" in our lives, to teach us all that the love of family is more important than anything else.
