TWELFTH NIGHT, RICHARD III and More Play American Players Theatre's 2012 Season

American Players Theatre (APT) announces its 2012 Season, which will run June 9 to October 21, 2012. The season will be especially exciting to Shakespeare lovers, with the return of three Shakespeare productions in APTs 1148-seat outdoor amphitheater Up the Hill, as well as Vern Thiessens Shakespeares Will, about William Shakespeares enigmatic wife Anne Hathaway, in APTs 200-seat indoor Touchstone Theatre. Today in 1955, Silk Stockings opened at the Imperial Theatre, where it ran for 478 performances. Silk Stockings is a musical with a book by George S. Kaufman, Leueen MacGrath, and Abe Burrows and music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The musical is loosely based on the Melchior Lengyel story Ninotchka and the 1939 film adaptation it inspired. It ran on Broadway in 1955. This was the last musical that Porter wrote for the stage. ( more...)

Casting has been completed for New York City Centers upcoming Encores! production of Stephen Sondheims Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, will be directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. Merrily has been extended for a two-week run and will play for 15 performances, February 819, 2012, at New York City Center, 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. ( more...)
