Yesterday, May 24, New Dramatists honored two-time Tony Award winner Bernadette Peters with their 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award at its 63rd Annual Spring Luncheon tribute at the New York Marriott Marquis. Among those who offered tributes were Emmy Award-winner Mary Tyler Moore, Peters Tony Award-winning A Little Night Music co-star Elaine Stritch, and New Dramatists Artistic Director Todd London. Tony and Academy Award-winner Joel Grey and Peters Tony-nominated Gypsy co-star John Dossett offered musical tributes. BroadwayWorld was on hand for the event and brings you photo coverage below! THE NORMAL HEART Tour Kicks Off A.C.T.'s 2012-2013 Season, 9/13

This years honorees included Harry Belafonte, James Earl Jones, Daryl Roth, Ed Schultz and Masa Tanaka. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater produces the 2011 Tony Award-winning production of Larry Kramers The Normal Heart, directed by George C. Wolfe. Wolfe, who directed the shows sold-out Broadway engagement last season, mounts the professional D.C.-area premiere of this production, which features returning Broadway cast members Patrick Breen and Luke MacFarlane, among others. Tom Hanks to Make Broadway Debut in LUCKY GUY in January

Tom Hanks will make his Broadway Debut in LUCKY GUY by Nora Ephron, according to Michael Riedel of the New York Post. The play, previously titled Stories About McAlary, centers on the life of the late New York Post and Daily News columnist Mike McAlary. A full production of the revised script directed by George C. A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE to Offer $29.50 Student Rush Tickets

A Streetcar Named Desire today announced that it will offer a limited number of student rush tickets for $29.50. Tickets will be available at the box office on the day of the performance, and each current student ID is eligible for two tickets. STAGE TUBE: On This Day 4/13- THE WILD PARTY

Today in 2000, The Wild Party opened at the Virginia Theatre (now the August Wilson Theatre), where it ran for 68 performances. The Wild Party is a musical with a book by Michael John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe and music and lyrics by LaChiusa. It is based on the 1928 Joseph Moncure March narrative poem of the same name. The Broadway production coincidentally opened during the same theatrical season (1999-2000) as an off-Broadway musical with the same title and source material. Its plot centers on a party - fueled by bathtub gin, cocaine, and uninhibited sexual behavior - hosted by Queenie and Burrs, whose relationship is disintegrating. The cast included Toni Collette (making her Broadway debut) as Queenie, Mandy Patinkin as Burrs, and Yancey Arias as Black. ( more...)
