Michelle Obama & Daughters Take Trip to 'BOUNTIFUL'

According to a source within the production, the Obama ladies slipped into their seats just prior to the beginning of the show, though received a 'huge ovation' when they returned at intermission for the second act. After the curtain call, the Obamas went backstage and met the cast and crew, including Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Williams, and Tyson.

Academy Award winner CUBA GOODING JR. will give his final performance in the critically acclaimed revival of Horton Foote's American masterpiece, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL, on Tuesday, August 27th, due to a change in schedule for an upcoming film project. Gooding made his Broadway debut in the acclaimed revival and can currently be seen nationwide in the hit film, Lee Daniels' The Butler.

This fall, two of North Carolina's leading theater companies, PlayMakers Repertory Company and Triad Stage, will co-produce the regional premiere of "The Mountaintop" by Katori Hall. The play focuses on the last night in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced that Thembisile Gxuluwe from West Mifflin Area High School near Pittsburgh has won first place at the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition held on Monday, May 6th at at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). Pablo Lopez from Los Angeles was the runner-up, and an honorable mention went to Branndin Phillips-Laramorefrom Chicago. The event, which was free and open to the public, featured high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright.

Roundabout Theatre Company' new Broadway production of The Big Knife by Clifford Odets, will star Emmy Award winner and Tony Award nominee Bobby Cannavale and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes. The Big Knife will begin previews on March 22, 2013 and open officially on April 16, 2013 at the American Airlines Theatre on Broadway (227 West 42nd Street). The announcement was made this afternoon at a gathering of representatives of several prominent organizations and local media at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
