SEEING JERUSALEM Continues Hangar Theatre's Pilot Reading Series, 4/23

The Hangar Theatres Pilot Reading Series in NYC continues with a reading of Seeing Jerusalem, a new play by Seth Greenland. Muriel Kauffman Theatre to Present HAIR in Feb. 2013

Today in 2009, the second Broadway revival of HAIR opened at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, where it ran for 519 performances. Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical is a rock musical with a book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni and music by Galt MacDermot. A product of the hippie counter-culture and sexual revolution of the 1960s, several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement. Hair tells the story of the "tribe", a group of politically active, long-haired hippies of the "Age of Aquarius" living a bohemian life in New York City and fighting against conscription into the Vietnam War. Galt MacDermot's GODDESS WHEEL to Premiere at Wagner College, 4/18-29

On April 18, the Wagner College Theatre will premiere Goddess Wheel, a new musical by Hair composer Galt MacDermot, with book and lyrics by Matty Selman. The show, which runs through April 29, will be staged in the Music Hall at Staten Islands Snug Harbor Cultural Center. ( more...)

Robin de Jesus and Javier Muñoz to Lead STC's TWO GENTLEMAN OF VERONA Concert

As part of the 25th Anniversary, Shakespeare Theatre Company celebrates Shakespeare through song and verse. A musical interpretation of the Bards work will be performed in concert-style staging as additions to the regular season. The limited engagement will be presented with live music and featuring, Tony nominee Robin de Jesus and Javier Muñoz, according to de Jesus' Facebook page. The Shakespeare Theatre Company continues celebrating its 25th Anniversary Season with the second installment of the Bards Broadway series with the Tony Award winning musical Two Gentlemen of Verona (a rock opera) performing January 27-29, 2012 at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW). Monday, January 23 was the Aquarius New Moon AND Chinese New Year (year of the Dragon) - it was also the 80th birthday of one of our national treasures - James Rado - co-author of the legendary musical HAIR. Rado celebrated this milestone at The Copacabana, with a crowd of over 125 - family and friends - including original Broadway HAIR cast members - Natalie Mosco, Marjorie LiPari, Robert I. Rubinsky (aka Bobby The Middle-Aged Celebrity); HAIR alumni including Heather MacRae, André De Shields, Ula Hedwig, Zora Rasmussen, Dale Soules. Other guests included Luther Creek (SPIDER-MAN, 25th Anniversary tour of HAIR, RENT) who performed excerpts from Rado's latest musical AMERICAN SOLDIER (written with brother Ted Rado) at the party along with Rosalind Brown, A.D. Coughlan, Ula Hedwig, Sean Jenness, Marjorie LiPari, Michael Lynch, Natalie Mosco, Cheryl Pepsii Riley, Gordon Ramsey, Robert I. Rubinsky, Sam Underwood and Alex York. ( more...)

HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival as well as the Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. HAIR was also nominated for an additional seven Tony Awards including Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Costume Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. The cast recording was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
