Daniel Assetta Wins 2015 Rob Guest Endowment Award

The winner of the 2015 Rob Guest Endowment Award was announced last night at a glamorous Grand Final Concert at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Competing against five other outstanding Semi-Finalists with his performance of Goodbye and Memphis Lives in Me, Daniel Assetta took out the prestigious award after being chosen by an expert panel of judges, which included Kelley Abbey, Peter Casey and Gale Edwards.

The 2015 Rob Guest Endowment Grand Final Concert will be held on Monday 9 November at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Hosted by Lucy Durack and David Campbell, guest artists performing at the concert will include musical theatre performers Rob Mills and Jemma Rix, Dirty Dancing star Mark Vincent, 2014 Rob Guest Endowment winner Joshua Robson, and cast members from Matilda and Cats.

Quintessence Theatre Group launches its sixth season of progressive classic theatre with Shakespeare's romantic tragedy ROMEO AND JULIET presented in rotating repertory with Wallace Shawn's celebrated translation of Machiavelli's sex comedy THE MANDRAKE. A nine actor repertory ensemble comprised of Quintessence's best and director Alexander Burns will continue to establish Quintessence's brand of full throttle epic classic theatre for today. ROMEO AND JULIET will begin previews on Wednesday, September 30 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 3 at 8pm.  THE MANDRAKE will begin previews on Wednesday, October 14 at 7pm and open on Saturday, October 17 at 8pm. Amongst the array of wonderful shows that The Production Company has brought to the stage, West Side Story, the adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, is without a doubt a triumph! Celebrating their 50th show, with what is often deemed as the best written musical of all time with book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, was definitely a decision well made.

Giuseppe Verdi's AIDA, written to open the Khedivial Opera House in Egypt in 1871, proves its timelessness as Director Gale Edwards blends old and new worlds on the waterfront stage. With a 18meter tall partial ruins of the head of Nefertiti towering over Farm Cove, the original setting in Egypt has been retained but the line between classical and modern Egypt is blurred as ancient religion and traditional costumes sit alongside futuristic soldiers and military officers reminiscent of European World War I and World War II strategists.
