Netflix has acquired all rights to Bradley Cooper's untitled Leonard Bernstein film, according to Deadline.  Cooper will direct, star in and produce the film from the script he co-wrote with Josh Singer. Cooper has been working closely with Bernstein's children, Jamie, Alexander and Nina, for the past two years on the film.

Bloomingdale School Of Music Honors Alexander Bernstein, Artful Learning, and Leonard Bernstein

In 1958 Leonard Bernstein revolutionized music education through the medium of television with his famed Young People's Concerts shown on CBS. A few years later, in 1964 David D. Greer, an organist and choirmaster at the West End Presbyterian Church noticed that many neighborhood children (Bloomingdale District) seemed to have nothing to do and so began the Bloomingdale School of Music. Greer first began by offering Saturday morning classes for as little as 50 cents to community residents and now 53 years later under the direction of only it's third Executive Director, Erika Floreska, the school is still committed to the notion that music has the power to change people's lives and that all people should have access to high quality music instruction and performance.

Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He took piano lessons as a boy and attended the Garrison and Boston Latin Schools. At Harvard University, he studied with Walter Piston, Edward Burlingame-Hill, and A. Tillman Merritt, among others. Before graduating in 1939, he made an unofficial conducting debut with his own incidental music to 'The Birds,' and directed and performed in Marc Blitzstein's 'The Cradle Will Rock.' Then at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he studied piano with Isabella Vengerova, conducting with Fritz Reiner, and orchestration with Randall Thompson.

Letters Show Leonard Bernstein Almost Walked Away From WEST SIDE STORY

The Guardian writes that a new collection of letters by famed composer Leonard Bernstein -- Nigel Simeone's Leonard Bernstein Letters, set to debut next month -- reveal the composer's 'hostility' for WEST SIDE STORY book writer Arthur Laurents. Bernstein even considered walking away from the project, according to one of the letters.
