As part of the eighth edition of the COIL festival, Performance Space 122 (PS122) and The Kitchen present the world premiere of Inflatable Frankenstein from Radiohole. One of New York's most tenacious and beloved ensembles explores the cultural legend of Frankenstein - everyone's metaphor for nearly everything. Source material includes Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, James Whale's classic Frankenstein films, details from Mary Shelley's tragic life, the work of Antonin Artaud and parts of over 100 'Frankenstein' films. Inflatable Frankenstein is blood chilling and completely strange; filled with whimsical creature fantasy, technological absurdity, electric air and bodily fluids. (more...)

Ontological-Hysteric Theater To Depart Performance Space at St. Mark's Church 6/30 by BWW

The Ontological-Hysteric Theater announced today that it will cease operations at the theater space at St. Mark's Church in the Bowery at the end of the 2009-2010 season (June 30, 2010). Since taking up a permanent home at St. Mark's Theater in 1992, the Ontological has presented annual theater works by Richard Foreman, whose trademark 'total theater' unites elements of the performing arts, visual art, philosophy, psychoanalysis, literature and, in recent years, film. Sources confirm that The Wooster Group is excited to guest curate Performance Space 122's longest-running multi-disciplinary mini-festival and that this spring's Avant-Garde-Arama! will feature artists who the Group calls upon, in their own words, 'sometimes late at night, sometimes when we haven't seen them in a while, sometimes lonely, sometimes drunk, and sometimes we when we've just got nothing better to do.' The Ontological-Hysteric Theater announced today that it will cease operations at the theater space at St. Mark's Church in the Bowery at the end of the 2009-2010 season (June 30, 2010). Radiohole Receives PS122 Spalding Gray Award by BWW News Desk - Mar 09, 2009
Performance Space 122 announced that Radiohole is the recipient of the third Spalding Gray Award. The award is a special commission created in Spalding Gray's honor by Performance Space 122, together with Kathleen Russo, UCLA Live, and The Walker Arts Center. The recipient of this year's award receives a full production in the 2009-10 seasons at P.S. 122 and The Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, as well as a stipend for its creation. The Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh was also announced as a partner in the award. (more...)
