This spring, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from St. Marks Church, to Tompkins Square Park, Central Park, and more. The directors concluded their class this past week by fully producing Chekhov on the Hudson - six short Chekhov adaptations near the Hudson River. New Jersey high school students from West-Windsor Plainsboro High School South, South Hunterdon Regional High School, and Neptune High School, along with their teachers, will gather at McCarter Theatre Center for the 9th Annual Youth Ink! Let me just start by saying I have never read or seen any works by Federico Garcia Lorca, so I could not be called a fan of his work. And Im wondering if thats what you would need to really get into Arouets production of Lorcas The House of Bernarda Alba adapted into English by Emily Mann. While there were some decent performances I just found it difficult to invest in any of the characters or situations. ( more...)

"The Convert" opened last night, April 19 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. The show, written by Danai Gurira and directed by Emily Mann in co-production with McCarter Theatre Center and the Goodman Theatre, is a world premiere production running through May 19. Danai Gurira, Wes Craven, Rutina Wesley, L. Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico Set to Lead PASSION at Classic Stage Company in 2013

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner announced today that acclaimed/awarding winning actresses Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico will star as Fosca and Clara in the companys new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapines Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (the Tony Award-winning revivals of Sondheims Sweeney Todd and Company). PASSION is slated to begin performances in February, 2013. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks and months, as well as full creative team. PASSION opened on Broadway in May of 1994 and received the Tony Award that year for Best Musical. ( more...)

DANNY and SYLVIA: THE DANNY KAYE MUSICAL, the long-running musical at St. Lukes Theatre, 308 West 46th Street, which opened May 13, 2008, will close on Friday, April 27th after a special added performance at 1 PM. The musical would have celebrated its 3rd anniversary this May. ( more...)
