McCarter Theatre Adds 6/9 Performance of INTO THE WOODS by BWW News Desk - May 23, 2013
Due to popular demand, McCarter Theatre has announced one additional performance of its smash-hit production of Into the Woods as reimagined by Fiasco Theater Company. Thanks to sold-out houses, great reviews, and nightly standing ovations, McCarter had previously announced it had extended the run through the matinee performance on Sunday, June 9. But fans will get one more chance! This innovative new production of the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical-theater classic must close after the added evening performance on Sunday, June 9 at 7:30pm. (more...)

On Monday, May 13 Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for Theatre honored Ruth and Stephen Hendel and Ming Cho Lee at their Gala Evening. The evening was held at the Angel Orensanz Foundation (172 Norfolk Street) in New York City, cocktails started at 6pm and dinner started at 7pm. Jessica Hecht was the emcee of the evening; the Gala co-chairs were playwright Lydia R. Diamond and interior designer Jasmine M. Keller. The Gala honorary chairs were Anne Kaufman, Obie award-winning director; Nelle Nugent, Broadway producer; Judith O. Rubin, chairman of the board of Playwrights Horizons; and Liz Smith, gossip columnist. The event hosted 200 guests and surpassed its financial goal. Scroll down for photos from the gala! (more...)

Minnie's Menagerie, a peculiar Depression-era sideshow, is raking it in with the help of Daedalus's whimsical technology. The Theater Project Presents HAVING OUR SAY, 4/4-21 by BWW

Sadie and Bessie Delany, each having passed the century mark, gained international recognition in 1991 when their book HAVING OUR SAY (with NY Times writer Amy Hill Hearth) spent six months on the best-seller lists. In the play by Emily Mann, the audience is invited to spend an evening with Sadie and Bessie, two VERY old ladies whose infectious charm and intelligence guides us through a century and a half of America's social history. Their recounting of family stories about the changes witnessed by the Delany family from slavery through the close of the
twentieth century vividly recalls the painfully slow progress of race relations in the United States. (more...)

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) presents the final installment of the 2012-13 Studio Series with a production of Emily Mann's powerful docu-drama Execution of Justice, directed by CCM Professor of Drama Michael Burnham. Execution of Justice runs tonight, April 18-20 in UC's Cohen Family Studio Theater. Admission is free, but reservations are required. This production contains mature subject matter. (more...)
