This spring, the students in Site-Specific Directing at Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA) have staged theatre all over New York City: from St. Mark’s Church, to Tompkins Square Park, Central Park, and more. The directors concluded their class this past week by fully producing Chekhov on the Hudson - six short Chekhov adaptations near the Hudson River. New Jersey high school students from West-Windsor Plainsboro High School South, South Hunterdon Regional High School, and Neptune High School, along with their teachers, will gather at McCarter Theatre Center for the 9th Annual Youth Ink! The acclaimed Broadway production of Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Emily Man will extend its run through August 19, 2012. Streetcar began performances on April 3 and opened on April 22 and was originally set to end its limited run on July 22 at the Broadhurst. (more...)

Let me just start by saying I have never read or seen any works by Federico Garcia Lorca, so I could not be called a fan of his work. And I’m wondering if that’s what you would need to really get into Arouet’s production of Lorca’s “The House of Bernarda Alba” adapted into English by Emily Mann. While there were some decent performances I just found it difficult to invest in any of the characters or situations. (more...)

"The Convert" opened last night, April 19 at the Kirk Douglas Theatre. The show, written by Danai Gurira and directed by Emily Mann in co-production with McCarter Theatre Center and the Goodman Theatre, is a world premiere production running through May 19. Danai Gurira, Wes Craven, Rutina Wesley, L. Scott Caldwell, Ntare Mwine, Glen Mazzara, Nyambi Nyambi, Deidrie Henry, Kristolyn Lloyd, Mia Barron, Edwina Findley, Lauren Cohan and more attended opening night. Check out the photos below! Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner announced today that acclaimed/awarding winning actresses Judy Kuhn and Melissa Errico will star as Fosca and Clara in the company’s new production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Tony Award-winning musical PASSION, to be directed by John Doyle (the Tony Award-winning revivals of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Company). PASSION is slated to begin performances in February, 2013. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks and months, as well as full creative team. PASSION opened on Broadway in May of 1994 and received the Tony Award that year for Best Musical. (more...)

A new Chekhov-inspired play by Christopher Durang, an Edward Albee classic, and one of Shakespeare’s late romances directed by Rebecca Taichman will be produced at McCarter Theatre Center during the 2012-2013 season. Two more productions will be announced at a later date. (more...)

“DANNY and SYLVIA: THE DANNY KAYE MUSICAL”, the long-running musical at St. Luke’s Theatre, 308 West 46th Street, which opened May 13, 2008, will close on Friday, April 27th after a special added performance at 1 PM. The musical would have celebrated its 3rd anniversary this May. (more...)
