AFM 2012 Announces Premieres Lineup

The 2012 American Film Market (AFM), set for October 31-November 7 in Santa Monica will screen more than 420 motion pictures, including 77 world premieres and 306 market premieres, for thousands of film buyers and industry professionals from more than 70 countries. Jonathan Wolf, AFM Managing Director and Executive Vice President of the Independent Film & Television Alliance, made the announcement today.

BWW can report that Dan Stevens, star of the Golden Globe-winning series "Downton Abbey," will play the role of "Morris Townsend" opposite Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain (Catherine Sloper) and Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner David Strathairn (Dr. Austin Sloper) in the Tony Award-winning play The Heiress. Written by Ruth Goetz & Augustus Goetz, The Heiress will be directed by Tony Award nominated playwright and director Moises Kaufman. Performances will begin October 2012 at a theatre to be announced.

Yesterday, May 12, the new film, Sleeping Beauty, premiered in Cannes, France. Stars Rachael Blake, Emily Browning and director/writer Julia Leight were on hand to celebrate at the photocall. Sleeping Beauty is an Australian drama film. The script made the 2008 Black List of unproduced screenplays grabbing attention in Hollywood. In September 2009, the project was approved for funding from Screen Australia. The film is the first competition entry to be screened. (more...)

Yesterday, May 23, the new film, Sucker Punched, premiered at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles. Sucker Punch is an American action-fantasy film written by Steve Shibuya and Zack Snyder, and directed by Snyder. Sucker Punch features an ensemble female cast that includes Emily Browning, Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung. The film follows a young girl in the 1950s about to be lobotomized as she attempts to escape an asylum with her inmate friends.
