In its 114 year life the Dutch Treat Club has had a membership that included, Jimmy Cagney, George S. Kaufman, Walter Cronkite, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein ll, and Presidents Hoover, Eisenhower, Truman, and Ford. The great Broadway producer George Abbot was a member for 52 years when he died at the age of 107. But enough about the past. This year this historic New York City institution which was founded by and for creative people decided to honor someone young, creative and contemporary, so they chose...Marilyn Maye…an artist for every generation.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented cabaret superstar KT Sullivan on the historic stage on Monday, May 21. KT Sullivan celebrated the master melodist Jerome Kern with songs both obscure ("Raggedy Ann" and "Bungalow In "Quogue") and classic ("Bill", "All the Things You Are" and, yes, "Old Man River"). KT was ably supported by jazz greats Jon Weber on piano and Steve Doyle on bass.

Some years ago when Tony Award-winning actress (for For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf (Ntozake Shange) and playwright Trezanna Beverley's voice coach suggested she listen to Mabel Mercer, the artist had not heard of the nightclub and cabaret singing icon. A trip to the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (Harlem) began a protracted period of research into Mercer's life and work. Beverley found she not only respected and admired her subject, but felt a kinship both in spirit and color. Inspired, she decided to write her own theatrical script about Mercer's life and art with the goal of playing her in a one-woman show. Her dream has been realized with Mabel Madness, a play with music that opened this week at Urban Stages and runs until March 20.

Making Pottery Art: The Robert A. Ellison Jr. Collection of French Ceramics (ca. 1880-1910) celebrates the recent acquisition of Mr. Ellison's European art pottery collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The majority of the 40 works on display are examples of French pottery and porcelain, and they are shown with comparative examples drawn from the Museum's holdings of Asian art, European sculpture and decorative arts, Greek and Roman art, and European paintings to illustrate sources of inspiration. Exhibition Dates: today, February 4-August 18, 2014.

2013 Female Vocalist of the Year from the Manhattan Association of Cabarets and Clubs, Stacy Sullivan has appeared in venues around the world, from The Brasserie Zedel in London to The Cafe Carlyle in New York. She has recorded five albums for the LML Music label, including her latest, "It's a Good Day," winner of the 2013 Lamott/Friedman Award and voted one of the Top Ten Recordings of 2012 by Talkin'Broadway.
