Amphibian Presents NY Premiere of SUN SONGS: THREE MICRO-OPERAS Tonight by BWW News Desk - Mar 07, 2013
Amphibian presents the New York premiere of Augusta Read Thomas' Sun Songs: Three Micro-Operas based on texts of Emily Dickinson featuring soprano Cyndie Berthezene and the Temple University Percussion Ensemble with video by John Gurrin. Gurrin's video tapestry for John Cage's String Quartet No. 1 was recently praised by The New Yorker's Alex Ross for its 'deliquescing landscapes.' This concert also features the world premiere of Matthew Greenbaum's surreal, ecstatic Headshot for video animation and electronic sound along with the New York premiere of AnDrew Taylor's On Coming Out and a piece by James Tenney. Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid's short film, Meshes of the Afternoon, will be screened. (more...)

Toronto's THE WIZARD OF OZ Extends Through June 2, 2013 by BWW News Desk - Jan 21, 2013
From the very first performance on December 20, 2012, THE WIZARD OF OZ has been a bona fide box office hit. Audiences have packed the Ed Mirvish Theatre (formerly the Canon) to enjoy this new telling of the classic story. More than 60,000 people have already seen the show in just 35 performances, bringing in over $6M at the box office. (more...)

Conductor Jeffrey Milarsky returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the LA Phil New Music Group in a Green Umbrella concert, Tuesday, April 10, at 8 pm. The concert features the world premiere of Oscar Bettison's LA Phil-commissioned Livre des Sauvages, the U.S. premiere of Karlheinz Stockhausen's Five Star Signs, and John Cage's Concerto for Prepared Piano, performed by Gloria Cheng. Milarsky replaces John Adams, who had to withdraw as conductor due to scheduling demands. (more...)

TCG Announces New Audience Development Program: Audience (R)Evolution by BWW News Desk - Mar 27, 2012
Theatre Communications Group (TCG) has received $1.45 million from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation to launch a new program for audience and community engagement, Audience (R)Evolution. Building off of the success of TCG's twelve-year New Generations: Future Audiences program, the program will study, promote and support successful audience engagement models across the country. Unfolding over three years, Audience (R)Evolution will include four components to achieve these goals: research and assessment, a convening, grant-making and widespread dissemination of audience engagement models that work.
