The American Songbook Project will launch a new program called 'The Art of Song Performance,' a workshop on July 10th-15th, 2011, in New York City. The summer intensive features classes in all styles of song performance, including Broadway, cabaret, jazz, and contemporary rock songs, taught by a host of luminaries from the theatre and cabaret community.

The Fred Ebb Foundation (Mitchell Bernard, Trustee) in association with the Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presented the sixth annual Fred Ebb Award for aspiring musical theatre songwriters to Douglas J. Cohen on November 29. The award, named in honor of the late award-winning lyricist Fred Ebb, was presented by David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys). The award-winning York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director) has announced the winner of a new award celebrating musical theatre talent: The York Theatre Company Noël Coward Prize. This year's recipient is Douglas J. Cohen, author of The Gig, which is based on a screenplay by Frank D. Gilroy.
