New York City Center Celebrates the 10th Anniversary Season of the FALL FOR DANCE FESTIVAL in September

New York City Center is celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the Fall for Dance Festival with a very special season, beginning with two FREE evenings of dance at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, hosted by The Public Theater, onSeptember 16 and 17 (Rain date, September 18). The Festival will continue at City Center from September 25 ­ October 5 with performances by 20 acclaimed dance companies and artists from around the world, including three new works from todayıs most exciting young choreographers, commissioned by City Center, in celebration of the tenth anniversary, all for the low ticket price of $15. The Festivalıs many free pre-show events will include dance lessons and panels by choreographers, artists and dance educators. Tickets will go on sale Sunday, September 8 at 11 a.m. (more...)

The Anata Project to Premiere THE HUSH HUSH CHRONICLES and KITTLESLIP at Z Space, 5/17-18

The Anata Project dance company, founded by Bay Area resident Claudia Anata Hubiak, has announced its spring season performances featuring two new world premieres - The Hush Hush Chronicles and Kittleslip. 10 Hairy Legs to Host 2013 NYC Dance Intensive, 7/6-12

Randy James' new dance company, 10 Hairy Legs, will hold its first annual week long, all-day Summer Intensive Workshop July 8-12 at Gina Gibney Dance, 890 Broadway in New York City. The 13th annual writing colony at the 20,000-acre working cattle ranch outside of Sheridan, Wyo. takes place through February 22 and provides a supportive environment for artists to create new work and receive guidance and reactions to it at an early stage. Under the supervision of Philip Himberg, Artistic Director of the Theatre Program, and Producing Director Christopher Hibma, the Playwrights Retreat is made possible through the generosity of Ucross Foundation. Over Valentine's Day weekend Joe's Pub hosted Dance Now, which presented an imaginative trio of performances, Dorothy, Annie, Maria Together. Each work gave a new twist to those well-known musicals The Wiz, Annie Get Your Gun and The Sound of Music. New York City's "Best Tiny Stage" exploded with energy, creativity, and humor as these Broadway classics were revived for a contemporary audience. (more...)

BWW Reviews: GroundWorks Dance is Superb in Allen Premiere

This is the 14th season of GROUNDWORKS, the Cleveland area small dance company which has proven to be a local treasure since its inception. In its short history the company has commissioned 19 premieres by nationally and internationally acclaimed choreographers, as well as 26 new works by its founder and Artistic Director, David Shimotakahara, and 8 by former dancer and now Artistic Associate Amy Miller. Its highlight feature is the high level of discipline, purposefulness, and precision instilled by Shimotakahara. (more...)

Dance New Amsterdam's RAW Material Program Features 6 World Premieres, 10/4 & 5

Dance New Amsterdam (DNA) will showcase six emerging dance-makers in its RAW Material series, an annual program which supports the work of budding choreographers who have shown promise to affect the field of dance. This year's performances, tonight, October 4 and tomorrow, October 5, feature a broad spectrum of dance, with world premiere works by Tough Cookie Dance/Michael Philip Richman and Josselyn Levinson-Dustin, Ashley Brown, Hadley Smith, Kellie Lynch & Tara Lee Burns, Anna Marie Shogren, and Abby Zbikowski|the new utility.
