MEGA STAGE TUBE: On This Day 3/12- LES MISERABLES

Today in 1987, Les Miserables opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 6680 performances. Written by Claude-Michel Schonberg, based on the novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables is set in early 19th-century France. The plot follows the stories of many characters as they struggle for redemption and revolution. In January 2010, it played its ten-thousandth performance in London, at Queen's Theatre in London's West End. On 3 October 2010, the show celebrated its 25th anniversary with three productions running in the same city: the original show at London's West End; the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary touring production at the original home of the show, the Barbican Centre; and the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary concert at London's O2 Arena. The original Broadway cast included Colm Wilkinson as Jean Valjean, David Bryant as Marius, Judy Kuhn as Cosette, Michael Maguire as Enjolras, Frances Ruffelle as Eponine, Braden Danner as Gavroche, Donna Vivino as Young Cosette, Jennifer Butt as Madame Thenardier, Leo Burmester as Thenardier, Randy Graff as Fantine, and Terrence Mann as Javert. 'Submissions Only,' the popular webseries, has announced today the return of the show for its third season. After a very successful and record breaking Season 2 on BroadwayWorld.com, in which episode traffic was double to triple its previous YouTube incarnation, it was announced today that Tony Award-Winning Broadway producer Kevin McCollum has attached himself to the project. WICKED's Elphaba Costume Inducted into the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History

In a historic ceremony on Monday, December 17th, the blockbuster musical WICKED's iconic Elphaba costume, hat and broom were inducted into the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History. Tony Award-winning costume designer Susan Hilferty was on hand to sign the deed of gift as well as Broadway cast members Donna Vivino and Tiffany Haas who sang a selection of song from WICKED to commemorate this significant event. The costume elements will join objects from the musicals King and I, Rent and The Lion King in the museum's permanent entertainment collections. (more...)

The It Gets Better Project, created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach will present their 2012 A Better Holiday concert. The concert will be held on December 16 from 7-10PM at XL Nightclub in partnership with The Group Entertainment, and will raise funds for the Ali Forney Center (AFC), the nation's largest organization working on behalf of runaway and homeless LGBTQ youth; the AFC had a vital drop-in center destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in late October. Stars of David is a world premiere musical based on Abigail Pogrebin's book, Stars of David: Prominent Jews Talk About Being Jewish. Nancy is a journalist who doesn't feel a connection with her Jewish heritage and decides to embark on a book project to interview well-known figures about their cultural identity. Wachs (producer of the hit films Beverly Hills Cop, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Coming to America), will mount a lab workshop of the new disco "revue-sical," Last Dance featuring the music of legendary pop master Paul Jabara (Enough is Enough, It's Raining Men, Last Dance, and more) with book by Shaun McKenna (Lord of the Rings, The Musical). Last Dance will play 5 performances tonight, September 20 - 23, 2012 at at The York Theatre at Saint Peter's (Citicorp Building, entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Wachs (producer of the hit films Beverly Hills Cop, Beverly Hills Cop 2, Coming to America), presents the developmental lab production of the new disco musical, Last Dance, featuring songs by the legendary Academy, Emmy and Grammy Award-winning pop master Paul Jabara (Enough is Enough, It's Raining Men, Last Dance, and more) with book by Shaun McKenna (Lord of the Rings, The Musical). Under the direction of Philip Wm. McKinley (SPIDERMAN Turn Off the Dark, The Boy from Oz), and with choreography by Carol Schuberg (Meet Me in St. Louis) and musical direction by Wendy Cavett (Mamma Mia!), the five-member cast also features Katrina Lenk (SPIDER-MAN Turn Off the Dark), Anastacia McClesky (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) EmmyAward nominee Rob Morrow ("Northern Exposure," "Numb3rs"), Jack Noseworthy (Jerome Robbins' Broadway) and Jill Shackner (Les Miserables).
