BWW Reviews: Aurora's DROWSY CHAPERONE - New Laughs in a Nostalgic Show

Before Oscar Hammerstein II, Jerome Kern, and Richard Rodgers revolutionized the American musical, Broadway was filled with shows comprised of simple, silly characters; fun, up-beat songs; and storylines and plot-twists that rarely made sense. While 'The Drowsy Chaperone' didn't debut until 1998, this fictitous flapper-era farce would have fit in perfectly with the Gershwins' light-hearted 'Girl Crazy' and Cole Porter's joyous, but convoluted 'Anything Goes.' With music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar, 'The Drowsy Chaperone,' now playing through April 14th at the Aurora Theatre both faithfully celebrates and hilariously sends-up the musical comedies of this bygone era. Donohue, OSA, PhD returns to Villanova Theatre with the Philadelphia premiere of The Drowsy Chaperone, on stage November 6 - December 2, 2012. The darling of the 2006 Tony Awards, this hilarious show-within-a-show begins when a die-hard musical theatre fan puts on his favorite record - the cast album of the (fictional) 1920s musical The Drowsy Chaperone. Bob Martin to Write Comedy Series for ABC & Shaw

According to Deadline.com, Broadway veteran Bob Martin has teamed up with Noreen Halpern for a comedy series for ABC and Canada's Shaw Still untitled, the series revolves around ' a cartoonist who struggles to reconcile the idealized married life depicted in his comic strip, with his own life, one that is populated by ex spouses, children from three different marriages, and a wife who earns far more money than he does.'
