Spectralia Theatre's THE COMEDY OF ERRORS Opens 6/29

Spectralia Theatre, in cooperation with Friends of the Parks and the Chicago Park District, presents Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors June 29th to August 4th. Before Fred and Barney or Gilligan and Skipper, there was Antipholous and Dromio - the original slapstick-comedy duo. Double the fun with two sets of twins and you have The Comedy of Errors. Mistaken identities, wrongful arrests and slapstick routines abound in Comedy, the Bard's earliest known play. The production features sword fights and third-party (bystander) knaps, employing a variety of percussion instruments to enhance the comedic effect. This family-friendly, 90-minute version of The Comedy of Errors is a great introduction to Shakespeare as well as a new take on a classic comedy. Patrons are encouraged to bring picnics, blankets and/or chairs to this outdoor production. (more...)

Coming up at 54 BELOW, the performance venue located just below the legendary Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz and beyond. 54 Below also launched its series of late night events. Joining Tuesday nights' popular "Backstage" with Susie Mosher is the "54 Piano Bar," a new vocal competition - 'The Callback," and more, including: stage and television star Laura Benanti, High Fidelity in Concert, WGBO Jazz Series: Karrin Allyson Quartet, Tony winner Frances Ruffelle, Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band, Sondheim Unplugged and Simply Streisand. Jack Ruby certainly killed Lee Harvey Oswald - twenty million witnesses watched as he gunned him down live on national television. The world was grieving for John Kennedy and the mysterious young man accused of his assassination had just been silenced by a local nightclub owner. None of it made any sense. For fifty years, commentators have attempted to solve the riddle and in piecing together the jigsaw puzzle of those events many have required Jack Ruby to be 'the Mafia's man in Dallas' - a blunt underworld weapon used to prevent Oswald from telling the truth. That piece would fit the puzzle. But does Jack Ruby fit the piece? (more...)

The show features the theatrical premiere of plays from Hotel Room (a miniseries produced by David Lynch & Monty Montgomery) including two works by Barry Gifford and a third developed from Jay McInerney's teleplay. Dead Writers Theatre Collective is proud to announce the Chicago premiere of Adam Pasen's Tea with Edie and Fitz, directed by Jim Schneider, April 26 - June 9, at the Greenhouse Theater Complex, 2257 North Lincoln Ave. Preview performances are April 26 - April 28. Opening/press night is Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception. The performance schedule is Thursdays and Fridays at 7:30 p.m., Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for previews and $30 for the scheduled run.
