Today, as a sideline to this weekendÂ’s extensive, exhaustive and exclusive InDepth InterView Tony Awards Edition: Jeff Calhoun, we are shining a special spotlight on the career of Calhoun on the Great White Way thus far with an electrifying collection of clips beginning with his collaborations with master director/choreographer Tommy Tune on THE WILL ROGERS FOLLIES - todayÂ’s 2012 Tony Awards Clip Countdown dedicatee - and BUSKER ALLEY, through to his directorial debut with GREASE and his subsequent work on ANNIE GET YOUR GUN, BELLS ARE RINGING, TABOO, GREY GARDENS, BIG RIVER, NINE-TO-FIVE and this yearÂ’s twofer of new musicals that he directed and choreographed, the recently-closed BONNIE & CLYDE and the still-running mega-hit NEWSIES. As a performer, Calhoun appeared in Tune productions like MY ONE AND ONLY and THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS - as well as the montage film ARIA - but, unquestionably, he is most well-known and best-loved by Broadway babies for his visionary work on so many new and original musicals, as well as some stupendous revivals along the way, as well. Ogunuit Playhouse Kicks Off 2012 Season with ALWAYS, PATSY CLINE, 5/24

The 80th Anniversary Season at the Ogunquit Playhouse kicks off with Always, Patsy Cline, on stage from May 23 through June 16. This show is told through the letters of star-struck fan Louise Seger, portrayed by Emmy Award winning actress, Sally Struthers. This popular musical, which has enjoyed great success both off-Broadway and across the nation, is based on the true story of Cline’s friendship with Seger, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961 and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. Featuring the unforgettable hits of the Country Music mega-star, this funny and touching tribute celebrates the career and life of the singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963. “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Walking After Midnight” are just a few of the 27 featured songs. Van Wezel’s 2011-2012 Season Chalks Up Over $6 Million in Sales

The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall has just completed one of the most successful seasons in the theaterÂ’s forty-two year history, surpassing last seasonÂ’s sales. This yearÂ’s sales were $6,207,790 and 108,737 tickets sold, while last yearÂ’s sales were $5,559,227 and 99,946 tickets sold. This amount consists of Van Wezel presented Main Stage performances only, and does not take into account local companies, event rentals, and Van Wezel Schooltime performances. (more...)

The Old Globe’s 2012-13 Season will feature the World Premieres of two new musicals: Allegiance – A New American Musical by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder by Robert L. Freedman and Steven Lutvak. The season also includes George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion in celebration of the classic play’s 100th anniversary and the World Premiere of a new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House by Anne-Charlotte Hanes Harvey and Kirsten Brandt. Two recent Broadway hits will make their San Diego debuts at the Globe: David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People and Jon Robin Baitz’s Other Desert Cities. Rounding out the season are the West Coast Premiere of Bekah Brunstetter’s Be a Good Little Widow and the Southern California Premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney’s The Brothers Size. (more...)

Roxy Regional Theatre to Kick Off 30th Anniversary Season With 9 TO 5, Starring Bailey Hanks

In a musical revue game show opening the 10th Annual Rivers and Spires Festival in Clarksville last Thursday, the Roxy Regional Theatre, Clarksville's oldest live theatre and only professional theatre, unveiled its 30th Anniversary Season. Under the direction of Tom Thayer, executive director, and John McDonald, artistic director, the theatre will kick off the 2012-2013 season with the Dolly Parton musical 9 to 5: The Musical.
