The Hartt School Welcomes Javon Jackson as Associate Professor of Jazz by BWW News Desk - May 20, 2013
The Hartt School will welcome acclaimed tenor saxophonist Javon Jackson as Associate Professor of Jazz and Chair of the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz. Jackson, who's appointment begins in August, will serve as the educational and administrative leader for the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz, and will teach, work with ensembles, assist in recruitment and development efforts, and represent the Institute and The Hartt School both internally and externally. Kirkland Performance Center Announces Spring Lineup by BWW News Desk - Mar 20, 2013
Lisa Loeb, (mom of two, children's author, musician and glasses designer) is best known for her geek-girl glasses and 90s hit "Stay (I Missed You)." On April 9 this busy working mom-musician travels to KPC in support of her new album "No Fairy Tale." Local flamenco guitarist Andre Feriante kicks of Mother's Day weekend on May 10th with a musical tour of the Mediterranean. Andre's performance features a wine tasting, captivating stories and exotic images to accompany his stunning guitar music. And what mom wouldn't be amazed by nineteen year old jazz sax phenom Grace Kelly (featuring Tineke Postma as the opening act). Grace Kelly performs on Saturday May 11. On Mother's Day, May 12, singer and puppeteer Mallory Lewis pays tribute to her own mother - the iconic children's entertainer Shari Lewis - in a family-friendly show titled A Lamb Chop Celebration. Honoring the work and legacy of one of the great jazz composers and collaborators, the Music Institute of Chicago presents a Billy Strayhorn Festival October 26-28. The festival, presented in partnership with Billy Strayhorn Songs Inc., a family corporation of the Strayhorn heirs, includes two star-studded concerts featuring trumpet great Terell Stafford and a screening of the award-winning film Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life followed by a panel discussion.
