SMASH Will Pass on the Gypsy Robe in 'Opening Night' Episode!

The 'Opening Night' episode of NBC's Broadway drama 'SMASH' (airing Saturday, April 20 at 9PM-10PM EST/PST) will include the Actors' Equity Association iconic Gypsy Robe ceremony, an honor bestowed to a member of a Broadway chorus with the most Broadway musical chorus or ensemble show credits. The Gypsy Robe ceremony takes place onstage just before the audience enters the theater on opening night. (more...)

The production, which was postponed due to a cast health matter, will continue performances on March 7, 2013. Profiles Theatre announces the final extension of their hit 20th Anniversary production of Hellcab by Will Kern, directed by Profiles Co-Artistic Director Darrell W. Cox. All cast members are continuing in their roles including Konstantin Khrustov as the driver and the original cast of 33 as the passengers. The production has been selling out since its opening on November 15, 2012 and has now been extended for the second and final time through February 24, 2013, at Profiles Theatre's Main Stage, 4139 N. Reed Birney at Roundabout

After more than three decades away, Reed Birney made a well-deserved return to the Broadway stage when Roundabout's production of Picnic opened earlier this month. He plays Howard Bevans, the small-town businessman who gets entangled with "old-maid schoolteacher" Rosemary Sydney (Elizabeth Marvel). Between his 1977 Broadway debut inGemini and his current turn as Howard, Birney found himself working off-Broadway. He gained critical acclaim for his work-particularly for his portrayal of the violent Ian in Sarah Kane's Blasted at SoHo Rep, a departure from his customary "nice-guy" roles.
