TenthPlanet: Planet Connections 10th Annual Theatre Festivity played to packed houses and great acclaim for each production. Another sold out house was achieved for the company's annual 'Playwrights for a Cause' event, this year, benefiting the Ali Forney Center. The banner season culminates with the Planet Awards. Lysistrata Jones gets back in the game! This time at Pace University. A modern retelling of Aristophanes's 411 B.C. comedy, Lysistrata, Lysistrata Jones tells the story of a group of college cheerleaders refusing to "give it up" until their boyfriends win a basketball game. Penned by Tony Award Nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Cinderella, The Little Dog Laughed, Sister Act, As Bees in Honey Drown) with music and lyrics by Lewis Flinn, this pop musical is presented by PACE University's BFA Musical Theater Program headed by Amy Rogers. The show runs through November 17th at the Schimmel Theatre at Pace University.

After reading far too many obituaries claiming, while not exactly mourning, the death of the Broadway musical, insisting that the art form can only be revived by injections of the kind of music that appeals to today's young audiences, I decided to take a night off from cabarets and piano bars a couple of Sundays ago to see what kind of songs were going to save the hallowed grounds of Gershwin, Porter and Rodgers.
