GLAAD award winning solo performer Marga Gomez will return to The Club at La MaMa with the world premiere of Swimming With Lesbians, her 14th one person show, which will run from March 29th through April 7th, 2024. Written and performed by Marga Gomez and directed by David Schweizer the piece is a buoyant and bawdy romp, set aboard a fictional lesbian luxury ocean liner.

The Los Angeles premiere of Anna Ouyang Moench’s Birds of North America opens September 23, 2023, at The Odyssey Theatre (with previews starting September 20th). Peter Richards directs this narrative of a father and daughter relationship with the cast of Arye Gross and Jacqueline Misaye. I got the chance to examine some of Arye’s views on Birds and his eventful theatrical career.

Taking place on The Celesbian cruise ship, this solo sapphic searing spoof follows the adventures of high-spirited poolside emcee Pru Perez. Passengers look up to Pru as a leader and Boss Lesbian of the sea – until the fateful sunny day of the Wet T-Shirt Relay Race when an old boarding school nemesis appears and Pru suddenly finds herself deep in murky waters. 

Albo and Almonte's show continues the Playhouse's tradition of storytelling events which was established in 2017 with the arrival of Michaela Murphy as Bucks County Playhouse's Director of Education.

Following a four-week workshop production last September, legendary performance artist John Fleck's latest work will get a full, world premiere production in 2022. it's alive, IT'S ALIVE, an outrageous musical satire that reflects on our national panic in the face of the pandemic, opens at the Odyssey Theatre on February 19, with performances continuing through March 20.

The Actors’ Gang Theater has just begun streaming their live virtual production of WE LIVE ON, based on the 1970 Hard Times by Studs Terkel. Directed by Actors’ Gang’s artistic director Tim Robbins, WE LIVE ON is performed in three parts. While in-person live performances are waiting in the wings, Bucks County Playhouse is presenting Playhouse Live! -- the free live-streaming variety show on Sundays at 7 p.m. This week, Sunday April 19, the Playhouse will feature its popular story-telling series, 'Word of Mouth' hosted by renowned storyteller, Michaela Murphy, and more.

IN CIRCLES is a feast for the eyes, even if Gertrude Stein's texts as lyrics seem nonsensical at times. Just go with the flow and let the atmosphere of the avant-garde 1968 theatre scene set your mind free! If only Stein's lover Alice B. “Papa Dozes, Mama Blows Her Noses.” That's just one of the delightfully quirky musical numbers from In Circles, the Obie award-winning musical romp adapted by composer Al Carmines from A Circular Play by Gertrude Stein. Odyssey Theatre Ensemble is reviving the 1968 off-Broadway hit as part of its 50th Anniversary “Circa '69” Season of significant and adventurous plays that premiered around the time of the company's 1969 inception. The run commences on Sept. 14, with renowned director David Schweizer, musical director Kenneth J. Grimes and choreographer Kate Coleman at the helm. Performances will continue through Nov. 10 at the Odyssey Theatre in West L.A.

Future IDs at Alcatraz, a yearlong project, exhibition, and series of monthly public programs on view in the New Industries Building on Alcatraz Island until October 2019, brings attention to criminal justice reform efforts and second chances. The exhibition encourages the viewer to reevaluate ideas about rehabilitation, reentry, and reintegration, which features ID inspired artwork created by individuals who have a conviction history as they conceive and develop a vision for a future self.
