BWW Reviews: Arvada Center Makes Family Christmas Magic with MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET-THE MUSICAL

The award winning Arvada Center brings Christmas joy with MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET-THE MUSICAL playing now through December 23rd. The musical is based on the story 'Miracle on 34th Street' by Valentine Davies; book, music and lyrics were written and composed by Meredith Willson (The Music Man and The Unsinkable Molly Brown). As Miracle on 34th Street unfolds, a wise old white bearded gentlemen claiming to be Kris Kringle shows up in New York City only to discover that the holiday to which he is eternally associated has become tarnished by commercialism and greed. When he gets hired as Santa Claus at Macy's, the jolly old gentleman goes about setting things right - even as events conspire against him. Based on the delightful movie classic that starred Edmund Gwenn as Kringle and a young Natalie Wood, this musical version includes memorable songs such as 'Jolly Old St. Nicholas,' 'The Holly and the Ivy' and more. As we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season, we all need a little break to remember that miracles do happen. TRU VOICES New Plays Reading Series Announces 1/25 Submission Deadline for Members

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) seeks submissions for the 15th Annual TRU VOICES New Plays Reading Series (deadline January 18, 2013 for non-TRU members; January 25, 2013 for TRU members). TheTRU VOICES New Plays Reading Series is a unique series geared towards nurturing the producer-writer relationship, and is particularly interested in finding producers who are looking for opportunities to develop new works. Shows selected will receive staged readings to be presented in June of 2013. Each reading will be followed by a 'Dollars and Sense' panel discussion with prominent New York producers, general managers and artistic directors focusing on potential venues, marketing and budgeting of the work. Stages Repertory Theatre's PANTO MOTHER GOOSE is their fifth original "panto" production, and this new tradition has become quite the holiday favorite in Houston. For those who may not know, "panto" is a British tradition of winter musical comedy theater that puts a fresh, raucous spin on fairy tales by injecting the familiar stories with references to contemporary culture and encourages audience interaction (i.e. cheering for the heroes and booing the villains every time they enter the performance space). TRU Now Accepting Submissions for 2012 New Musicals Reading Series

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) is extending the submission deadline for the 2012TRU Voices New Musicals Reading Series to August 23 (for musicals without a producer) and August 30 (with a producer attached). BWW Reviews: Stray Dog Theatre's Nutty Production of THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL

There's something lovably crass about THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL that makes it a very wild ride, indeed. As an audience, we're accustomed now to the tell-all, show-all, behavior that's seen on daytime (and some times night time)television, especially if you watch Jerry Springer or others of his ilk. Really, these characters ring true enough that they virtually shine in this arena, if only for the length of this crazy quilt of trailer-hood that mixes in a liberal dose of modern Americana. Stray Dog Theatre's latest production throws a helluva lot of jokes against the wall, and luckily, most of them stick. (more...)

The Arvada Center will hold auditions for the musical, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd., June 28 and 29; and in New York City, June 9 -11.
