Review: TURNING THE SCREW, King's Head Theatre

English composer Benjamin Britten is writing The Turn of the Screw. Based on a novella by Henry James, it follows the worries of a young governess sent to the countryside to take care of a pair of children. As Britten is building his melodies, the government is working hard to shut down the influence of what they call “high profile homosexuals’’ (think John Gielgud and friends).

In honor of his genius for shape shifting, the Film Society will present Watch That Man: David Bowie, Movie Star (August 2-8), a retrospective of what is arguably his finest work on the big screen—plus two special rarities from the BBC archives, one of which has never been seen in the U.S.

The Thursday, May 8 performance will be broadcast 'Live from Lincoln Center' nation-wide on PBS.

Lerner and Loewe's Camelot will be presented by the New York Philharmonic in four semi-staged performances, Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 7:30PM, and Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10 at 8PM. The musical - a New York Philharmonic premiere - will be directed by Lonny Price. Thomas Z. Shepard is the producer. Casting and additional production credits will be announced at a future date.
