David S. Craig Wins the 2014 Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award

The Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award was inaugurated in 1996 and is given to a Canadian artist who demonstrates excellence in the performing arts and is dedicated to advocating and being an ambassador for the arts in Canada. The Barbara Hamilton Memorial Award is presented every two years and is sponsored by the City of Toronto. The recipient is awarded with an official scroll from the City and this year the City has increased the cash prize from $1,000 to $ 1,750.

The 2013 Dora Awards took place in Toronto on Monday June 25th at The St Lawrence Centre for the Arts. To accommodate demand, the Bluma theatre was also opened up for guests and the awards were live-streamed via 'Doratron'. As in previous years, there was a glamorous VIP ceremony pre-show followed by a post show street party that closed down Front Street. A record number of Doras were given out, with Young People's Theatre's CINDERELLA the runaway hit of the evening with seven awards. BWW is thrilled readers photos from the evening.

The Canadian Music Theatre Project is Canada's first incubator for the development of new musical theatre works by Canadian and international composers, lyricists and book-writers. Outside the March, the creative force behind last year's Mr. Marmalade, is teaming up with Dora Award-winning performer David Ferry and Theatre Passe Muraille to present the Canadian Premiere of Mike Daisey's The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs.
