CHUCK Star Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez Set to Lead FIRST DATE on Broadway; Opens August 8

Tony Award-winning producer Junkyard Dog Productions (Memphis) has just announced that leading man Zachary Levi, star of TV's “Chuck,” Disney's feature film Tangled and the upcoming Thor: The Dark World, will make his Broadway debut starring opposite Broadway and television ingénue Krysta Rodriguez (“Smash,” The Addams Family) in FIRST DATE, Broadway's new romantic musical comedy. With a book by Austin Winsberg (“Gossip Girl”), music and lyrics byAlan Zachary and Michael Weiner (Secondhand Lions, Twice Charmed) and musical staging by Josh Rhodes (Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella) FIRST DATE is directed by Bill Berry (Producing Director of The 5th Avenue Theatre). Featuring Sara Chase (“Arrested Development,” The Toxic Avenger), Kristoffer Cusick (Wicked, Rent), Blake Hammond (Sister Act, Billy Elliot) and Kate Loprest (“Boardwalk Empire,” Hairspray), the cast of FIRST DATE also includes Vicki Noon (Wicked, Mamma Mia!). The announcement of Tony Award nominations raised a round of cheers this morning in the Emerald City as The 5th Avenue Theatre's Broadway hit A Christmas Story, The Musical received three nods from the American Theatre Wing, including Best Musical. Additionally, Carolee Carmello received a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her performance in Scandalous: The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson, which premiered at The 5th in 2011 as Saving Aimee. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical and launched the Theatre's unprecedented track record for sending new works to New York. Now 10 seasons later, The 5th collaborates with one of the world's largest and most respected choruses, the Seattle Men's Chorus. Together they will bring this special concert presentation of Hairspray, with all its glorious, irreverent, John Waters-inspired wackiness, back to the 5th Avenue stage for six very special performances. Noah Racey, Laura Griffith to Lead THE MUSIC MAN at 5th Avenue Theatre

The 5th Avenue Theatre is thrilled to announce the cast for its glorious new production of Meredith Willson's The Music Man, a loving valentine to musical theater. The 5th's exuberant staging features a cast of 29 adults and 16 children, not to mention a full 20-piece orchestra, bringing this musical masterpiece to booming brassy life with the full force and excitement of a parade. Seattle native and seasoned Broadway pro Noah Racey returns home to star as Professor Harold Hill alongside Laura Griffith as Marian (the librarian) Paroo singing such celebrated songs as "Til There Was You," "Seventy Six Trombones," and "Ya Got Trouble." This all-star cast also features a host of Seattle's finest actors, including Anne Allgood, Jeff Steitzer, Laura Kenny, Richard Gray, Darragh Kennan, Joshua Feinsilber, and many others. (more...)

5th Avenue New Works Program Seeks Musical Theatre Writers and Composers; Deadline 12/15

The 5th Avenue Theatre is looking for Pacific Northwest musical theatre writers and composers to join its new 5th Avenue Writer's Group. A part of The 5th's New Works program, the Writer's Group seeks to cultivate the next generation of musical theatre writers, right in our own backyard. Under the mentorship of 5th Avenue professionals, three participating teams will grow into savvy, creatively driven writers and composers ready to take their musical theater projects to the next level.
