Dixie Chicks' Natalie Maines Joins ST. REGIS BIG STARS, BRIGHT NIGHTS Concert Series, 7/30

Natalie Maines, lead singer of the Dixie Chicks, headlines a concert featuring her own brand of alternative rock at Deer Valley Resort on Tuesday, July 30. Maines is the final artist to join the St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights outdoor concert series for 2013, which includes world-renowned talent ranging from Los Lobos to Jewel. Rooftop Films Announces Partnership with Academy and Full Summer Line Up

Rooftop Films has announced its full feature film slate for 2013, featuring more than 45 outdoor screening of new independent films, including two special sneak preview screenings co-presented with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. On June 8th the two organizations will present a free screening of "Twenty Feet from Stardom," RADiUs-TWC's hit documentary that brings back-up singers to the forefront. Following the screening there will be a live performance by Darlene Love, one of the main subjects of the film. On July 20th, Rooftop and the Academy will partner again to present Cinedigm's "Short Term 12", the feature film debut of Destin Cretton. Cretton was a 2010 Academy Nicholl Screenwriting Fellowship winner, and "Short Term 12" went on to win the 2013 SXSW Grand Jury Award in March. (more...)

Bette Midler Reveals Plans to Make Girl Group Tribute Album

Bette Midler is official back on Broadway as of last night, and she recently revealed that she's already eyeing up her next project. According to Showbiz411, Midler is looking into making a new album that will tribute vintage girl groups, such as the Crystals and the Chiffons. It will also include 'some Phil Spector-like Christmas songs with notable back up singers and stars like Darlene Love and others from the current documentary "Twenty Five Feet from Stardom."' Songwriter Gary U.S. Bonds to Release New Memoir

World-known performer, hit songwriter, influencer of Bruce Springsteen, and now published author, Gary U.S. Bonds will be celebrating his 74th birthday and first world book launch for his memoir, BY U.S. BONDS, That's My Story, written by Bonds with Stephen Cooper. The event June 5, 2013 at B.B. King's, NY, includes Gary's live performance of his newest music single "That's My Story," with after-concert book signing and party festivities. West coast launch is slated for June 17 at the iconic Book Soup, West Hollywood, Calif. Taylor Mac to Star in The Foundry's GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN at La MaMa, 2/1-24

Can we practice goodness and create a world to sustain it? This question, posed by Shen Tei, the good-hearted, penniless and cross-dressing prostitute of Bertolt Brecht's Good Person of Szechwan, is central to the work of The Foundry Theatre. The play's concerns, and the earmarks of the Foundry's new production, make it an ideal offering from the company, which is celebrated for creating memorable theatrical events while pursuing civic inquiry and social justice. The show, starring the singular Taylor Mac as Shen Tei, is directed by Lear deBessonet and features original live music by 'indie rock vaudevillians' (SPIN) César Alvarez and The Lisps. (more...)

This weekend, all roads lead to St. Louis as actors are headed there from all over the country to audition for the Muny's summer production of LES MISERABLES directed by Richard Jay-Alexander and with music direction by Kevin Stites.
