Urban Stages WINTER RHYTHMS 2012 Begins Tonight by BWW News Desk - Dec 04, 2012
Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director), in association with producer/director/lyricist Peter Napolitano announces a series of musical evenings entitled WINTER RHYTHMS 2012, beginning on Tuesday, December 4 and running through Friday, December 15, 2012 at Urban Stages Theatre (259 West 30th Street). Anthony Dean Griffey Replaces Matthew Polenzani in George London Foundation Recital, 1/13 by BWW News Desk - Nov 20, 2012
American tenor Anthony Dean Griffey will join soprano Emalie Savoy (2011 George London Award winner) and pianist Ken Noda on the bill of the second George London Foundation Recital of the season on January 13, 2013, at The Morgan Library & Museum. Mr. Griffey replaces the originally-announced Matthew Polenzani, who has had to withdraw because of a scheduling conflict-he has assumed the role of Leicester in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda at the Metropolitan Opera. Mr. Polenzani will participate in the George London Foundation Recital Series next season. (more...)

Urban Stages (Frances Hill, Founding Artistic Director) has announced their 2012-13 season, beginning with the 20 Year Anniversary Celebration of Urban Stages ON TOUR with Urban Stages OCTOBERFEST (October 7-November 4), followed by the award-winning "Winter Rhythms 2012" (December 4-16, 2012) a music-fueled two-weeks of established and promising musical artists performing new works. GOLDEN TICKET Recording Gives Supporters Chance to Become Oompa Loompas by BWW News Desk - Mar 07, 2012
The Golden Ticket, American Lyric Theater's first opera commission - based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - is being produced for the third time this winter. The Golden Ticket received its world premiere at Opera Theatre of Saint Louis in 2010, followed by its European premiere at Ireland's Wexford Festival. This month, ALT is partnering with The Atlanta Opera to present The Golden Ticket and is recording the performances for release on CD later this year. (more...)

A Tribute to Jerry Bock by Glen Roven by BWW - Nov 07, 2010
When I heard the brilliant composer Jerry Bock had died last week, I made my own private listening memorial: I programmed a play list of his songs on my iPod -- "I Love A Cop," "Politics and Poker," "What Makes Me Love Him?" "Will He Like Me?" "Vanilla Ice Cream" and course the entire score to Fiddler. What joy he gave me, and I know he will continue to give me long into the future.
