Transport Group, the Drama Desk and OBIE award-winning theatre company, has announced initial casting for its one-night-only, all-star concert of the acclaimed 1983 Broadway musical Baby, which will take place Monday, June 18 at 7pm at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, 121 Christopher Street. Rated P for Parenthood, a new musical comedy in its Off-Broadway debut now on stage upstairs at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street), welcomed its first marriage proposal following the evening performance on Wednesday, March 7th. Long Island resident David Troy joined the cast following the curtain call to call his girlfriend, Dellene Kornitsky on stage. As the audience applauded, Mr. Troy popped the question. About 40 minutes South of the starry lights of Broadway, along New Jersey Transit's Midtown Direct line, you'll find the town of Maplewood, New Jersey and it's neighbor, South Orange. Dubbed "Where Broadway Comes Home to Sleep", this idyllic suburb is home to a healthy contingent of commuting, Broadway performers, many of whom are parents. Lucky for those of us who are true fans, these talented suburbanites have created a new theatre company housed in the beautiful, South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC). Named MDR (Midtown Direct Rep) after the train line that gets its members to work eight times a week, the company includes an impressive list of some of Broadway's best including Norbert Leo Butz, Christiane Noll, and Michele Pawk just to name a few.
