Martin, Jerry Stiller, Christopher Walken, Sam Waterston and Jeffrey Wright will join Kevin Kline as Romeo and Meryl Streep as Juliet in a one-night-only benefit reading of ROMEO AND JULIET on Monday, June 18-- the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. As first reported exclusively by BroadwayWorld.com last week, the Public Theater confirmed today that Tony Award-winner Donna Murphy has been cast as The Witch in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s beloved musical INTO THE WOODS, directed by Timothy Sheader with co-direction by Liam Steel. Murphy last performed at the Delacorte in the Shakepeare in the Park production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood in 1985. INTO THE WOODS will begin previews on Monday, July 23 and continue for five weeks through Saturday, August 25 with an official press opening on Thursday, August 9. (more...)

The Trustus Black Box Theatre has been transformed into an intimate hotel room that’s ready to set the stage for a gun-toting comedic adventure as Martin McDonagh’s A Behanding in Spokane comes to the Midlands. “DANNY and SYLVIA: THE DANNY KAYE MUSICAL”, the long-running musical at St. Luke’s Theatre, 308 West 46th Street, which opened May 13, 2008, will close on Friday, April 27th after a special added performance at 1 PM. The musical would have celebrated its 3rd anniversary this May. (more...)

Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Queen Latifah has signed on to star in and executive produce the Lifetime Original Movie Event, Steel Magnolias, a television adaptation of the iconic play and 1989 film of the same name, reuniting her with her producing duo Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, from the Oscar and Golden Globe winning Chicago and Hairspray. (Zadan and Meron also produce Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva and Smash.) She will take on the role of ‘M’Lynn’ and star alongside an all-star cast that includes Tony Award winner Phylicia Rashad as ‘Clairee,’ Golden Globe and multiple Emmy winner Alfre Woodard as ‘Ouiser,’ Grammy winner Jill Scott as ‘Truvy,’ Adepero Oduye as ‘Annelle,’ and Condola Rashad as ‘Shelby.’ The announcement was made today by Nancy Dubuc, President and General Manager of Lifetime Networks. Academy Award winner Christopher Walken and his wife casting director (Sopranos, Entourage) Georgianne Walken made a rare appearance on the town attending a preview of Kenyetta Lethridge's Innocent Flesh at the Actors Temple Theatre. The usually camera shy Walken was so impressed by the four young actresses who play teenage hookers in the searing drama posed happily with the cast members as they whipped out their cell-phones. They also congratulated writer / director Kenyetta Lethridge and producers Michael Mann & Diana Zollicoffer on the production. (more...)

Tony Award winner Jefferson Mays, currently playing on Broadway in The Best Man, will head the cast of the inventive comedy/thriller, Stage Struck, by Simon Gray, a Script in Hand playreading at Westport Country Playhouse, on Monday, March 12, 7 p.m. The cast includes Jayne Atkinson, Michel Gill and Doug Stender. Producers Daryl Roth and Hal Luftig announced today that Kinky Boots, the new musical that brings together four-time Tony® Award-winner Harvey Fierstein (Book) and Grammy® Award-winning rock icon Cyndi Lauper (Music & Lyrics), will have its pre-Broadway world premiere in Chicago this fall.
