Principal Trumpet Christopher Martin introduces and performs the post horn solo from the third movement of Mahler's Symphony No. 3. Mahler calls for the solo to be played 'wie aus weiter Ferne' (from far away), which means the trumpet player is usually hidden offstage.

New York Philharmonic Ensembles Series Continues with Three Concerts

The 36th season of the New York Philharmonic Ensembles series - chamber concerts showcasing Musicians from the New York Philharmonic performing classical and modern works they have chosen on select Sunday afternoons at Merkin Hall - will continue this spring with three concerts. Philharmonic musicians will perform works by Mendelssohn and Schubert on March 15, 2020; Vanhal, Mendelssohn, Roussel, and Mozart on April 19, 2020; and Eric Ewazen, Stravinsky, and Dvořák on May 24, 2020.

This Monday, April 29, 2019 is the annual benefit for The Center for Arts Education 'CAE CELEBRATION 2019' at The Yale Club of New York City (50 Vanderbilt Ave.) This gala evening is a benefit in support of arts education for all NYC public school students. Yuja Wang will replace Maurizio Pollini, who has cancelled in order to fully recover from a brief illness, in the one-night-only performance of Schumann's Piano Concerto with the New York Philharmonic led by Music Director Jaap van Zweden, Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at 7:30 p.m. The program will also include Johan Wagenaar's Cyrano de Bergerac Overture and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.
