On Tuesday, May 1, The American Theatre Wing announced the nominees for the 2012 Tony Awards, and Hartt graduates are among the honorees. The American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards, named for the late Antoinette Perry – an actress, director, producer, and the dynamic wartime leader of the American Theatre Wing – got their start in 1947 when the Wing established an awards program to celebrate excellence in the theatre. After almost 1000 West End manicures, perms and make-overs, Legally Blonde The Musical will have its final performance at the Savoy Theatre on Saturday 7 April 2012, when principal contracts end. The production now in its third year has transformed the Savoy Theatre into a pink haven for Elle and her sorority girlfriends. Legally Blonde The Musical opened in December 2009 to rave reviews and the show went on to win seven theatre awards including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Musical. Legally Blonde The Musical continues its tour of the UK and plans are in place for an Australian production to open in Sydney later this year. (more...)
