BWW Review: Will on the Hill and Far Away at Shakespeare Theatre Company

“What’s past is prologue” Prospero says in The Tempest, but when the present passes into the past what’s left is Will on the Hill and Far Away, the earnest and frequently successful effort by Congressmen to do Shakespeare funny. In this annual exercise, designed to raise funds for arts education, members of both Houses, as well as various other political luminaries (Washington is crawling with them), put themselves in preposterous situations which magically turn out well, just as characters in the Bard’s plays often do.

Raleigh Little Theatre presents the first local production of the play, which originally premiered at the Royal National Theatre in London in 2012. 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' is a play by Simon Stephens based on the novel by Mark Haddon. The play won the 2013 Olivier Award for Best New Play, and the Broadway production won the Tony Award for Best Play in 2015, among other accolades. RLT's Artistic Director Patrick Torres will direct a fresh new black box staging of the production, running January 17 - February 2 in RLT's intimate Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre.

Signature Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for Assassins with music & lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman and directed by Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Gigi, Follies). Signature Theatre continues to be the largest single producer of the work of Stephen Sondheim and Assassins marks the 30th production of a Sondheim musical in Signature Theatre's history. Assassins will run from August 11 - September 29 in Signature Theatre's intimate MAX Theatre.
