Michael Moore, Morgan Spurlock and More Attend DCTV's Groundbreaking in NYC by Movies News Desk - May 07, 2013
Earlier today New York City officials Kate Levin, Scott Stringer, Margaret Chin and Gale Brewer were joined by acclaimed filmmakers Michael Moore (Bowling For Columbine); Matthew O'Neill (China's Unnatural Disaster, Redemption), and Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) at a ceremony to mark the groundbreaking of Downtown Community Television Center's new documentary-only theater. The groundbreaking marks a significant milestone for Downtown Community Television (DCTV), a cultural fixture in Lower Manhattan since 1972 founded by the award-winning filmmaking team Jon Alpert & Keiko Tsuno. On April 6, Their Most Imperial and Sovereign Majesties, Emperor XXI Ritz Kraka and Empress XXVI Witti Repartee, presented The Night of a Thousand Gowns -- a dazzling display of regal glamour, an opportunity to celebrate the LGBT community, and in particular, the colorful cross-dressing segment of that community. In its twenty-seven year history the Imperial Court of New York has donated over 1.5 million dollars to worthy LGBT, HIV/AIDS and youth enrichment related causes. Directed by Eric Hoff, with original music & music supervision by Dan Lipton. Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces that submissions are open for the TRU 2013 Combined Audition Event, produced by Jaye Maynard and Michelle Slonim, and presented in association with Actors Access, Actors Connection, Modernage/HeadshotRepros.com, People's Improv Theater (The PIT), The Players Theatre, Ripley Grier Studios, Studio 7 Photography, TheaterMania, Wag That Reel and Weist-Barron Studios. Auditions will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 6-7, 2013 from 10am-6pm at People's Improv Theater (The PIT), 123 East 24th Street, NYC. After three years and an extensive $40 million renovation, the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial at the American Museum of Natural History will reopen to the public with a day of celebration today, October 27, 2012. The Hall of North American Mammals will reopen as the Jill and Lewis Bernard Family Hall of North American Mammals, with stunningly restored dioramas depicting wilderness areas and wildlife that Roosevelt's policies have helped to preserve.
