On April 6, Their Most Imperial and Sovereign Majesties, Emperor XXI Ritz Kraka and Empress XXVI Witti Repartee, presented The Night of a Thousand Gowns -- a dazzling display of regal glamour, an opportunity to celebrate the LGBT community, and in particular, the colorful cross-dressing segment of that community. In its twenty-seven year history the Imperial Court of New York has donated over 1.5 million dollars to worthy LGBT, HIV/AIDS and youth enrichment related causes. This year the Night of a Thousand Gowns welcomes 1,000 attendees to raise important funds for GLAAD and GHMC. Below, BroadwayWorld brings you photos from the evening's festivities! (more...)

The internationally acclaimed musical sensation PINK MARTINI will bring their unique and highly praised vocal stylings to The McCallum Theatre for a 'one night only' concert tonight, September 8 at 8:00 pm. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world - crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop - Pink Martini's diverse repertoire is a blend influenced by Cole Porter and Duke Ellington, Tito Puente and Xavier Cugat, as well as Argentine tango, Brazilian samba, Italian folk, Asian and romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s and '50s. The Night of a Thousand Gowns celebrating the LGBT community - the colorful cross-dressing segment of that community -took place on Saturday, March 31 in New York City. In its twenty-six year history, the Court has donated over a million dollars to worthy LGBT, HIV/AIDS and youth enrichment related causes. This year the Night of a Thousand Gowns raised important funds to benefit PFLAG NYC and New Alternatives. BWW was there to cover this event. Check out the red carpet photos below! (more...)

Mike Ruiz to Receive Imperial Court of New York's Diamond Award, 3/31; CHICAGO & More to Perform

The Imperial Court of New York has announced that Mike Ruiz, LGBT advocate and renowned photographer, will receive the Imperial Diamond Award at the 26th Annual Night of a Thousand Gowns on March 31, 2012 at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. Ruiz will accept the Award for service to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. (more...)

A NIGHT OF MACABRE AT THE HOUSE OF YES will feature special performances by burlesque chanteuse Ashley Morgan Monroe (Circus of Circus), The Love Show (Nutcracker: Rated R), Scooter Pie (Shaken and Stirred Burlesque), Go-Go Harder (Meaner, Harder, Leather), singer Juliet Campbell (of Shanghai Mermaid), musician Benjamin Ickies (of This Ambitious Orchestra), aerial acts by Airin Deskies (of Lady Circus), Nicki Miller (The Sky Box), Kae Burke (2011 New York Innovative Theatre Award for Circus of Circus), and Anya Sapozhnikova (of The House of Yes), acrobatics by Ryan Shinji Murray and fire performances by Evgeniya Radilova with surprise guest appearances, Eric Schmalenberger as his drag alter ego Miriam, and a screening of the video trailer for RKP Theatre Ensemble's upcoming show, The Tragedy of Maria Macabre. TWEED TheaterWorks, in association with Robbi Kearns, will bring back the vaudeville Follies when such beloved artists as Rufus Wainwright, Lypsinka, Jackie Hoffman, Julie Halston, David Ilku, Brenda Bergman and Lady Bunny participate in 'FOLLY: The Grand Street Folles, 2009,' a fundraiser for God's Love We Deliver and TWEED Theaterworks on February 27 and 28, 2009 at 8pm at the Abrons Arts Center (466 Grand St.) in Manhattan. 'FOLLY: The Grand Street Follies, 2009', inspired by the follies of the 20's -- but billed as a 'Vaudeville for the New Depression' -- will be an 'old school' vaudeville show featuring live acts: comedy, intriguing skits, unusual musical numbers, spectacle extravaganzas and more than a few surprises.
