Barrington Stage Company will present the New England premiere of British playwrightÂ’s Duncan MacmillanÂ’s acclaimed new drama Lungs. Lungs opens the newly named St. Germain Stage (formerly Stage 2) from May 23 through June 10, and the press opening is Sunday, May 27 at 3pm. Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre et al. Present 3C 6/21

Marcus Gardley is a poet-playwright whose most recent play every tongue confess premiered at Arena Stage starring Phylicia Rashad and directed by Kenny Leon. It was nominated for the Steinberg New Play Award and the Charles MacArthur Award for outstanding new play. His musical, ON THE LEVEE premiered last summer at Lincoln Center and was nominated for 11 Audelco Awards including outstanding playwright. Last Spring, his play AND JESUS MOONWALKS THE MISSISSIPPI was produced at the Cutting Ball Theater and received the SF Bay Area Theater Critics circle Award nomination for outstanding new play. He has had six plays produced including: DANCE OF THE HOLY GHOST at Yale Repertory Theatre (now under a Broadway option,) (L)IMITATIONS OF LIFE, at the Empty Space and LIKE SUN FALLIN' IN THE MOUTH at the National Black Theatre Festival. He is the recipient of the Hellen Merrill Award, a Kellsering Honoree, the Gerbode Emerging Playwright Award, the National Alliance for Musical Theatre Award, the Eugene O'Neill Memorial Scholarship, and the ASCAP Cole Porter Prize. He holds an MFA in Playwriting from the Yale Drama School and is a member of New Dramatists, The Dramatists Guild and the Lark Play Development Center. ( more...)

First Draft Announce EVERYTHING LIVES IN A CLOUD Readings for April 17+24

First Draft at Charter Theater – a nonprofit organization devoted to developing theater audiences alongside new plays; supporting DC-based artists; and partnering with theaters looking to produce new work – announced today that it will present two readings this month of the new play, “everything lives in a cloud,” by DC-based playwright and Charter Associate Artistic Director, Chris Stezin. The April readings will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17th at Theater on the Run in Arlington; and 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24th at the Arts Club of Washington. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater has just announced the full company of You, Nero by American Voices New Play Institute resident playwright and Pulitzer Prize finalist Amy Freed. This is the second project of a resident playwright to be produced at Arena Stage as part of the three-year residencies through the Institute.
