MTC to Tribute Artistic Director Lynne Meadow, 6/18

Manhattan Theatre Club will celebrate Artistic Director Lynne MeadowÂ’s 40th anniversary as the visionary and artistic leader of the organization with a special tribute on Monday, June 18. The event will begin at 6:30 PM with a VIP cocktail reception, followed by a 7:30 tribute event at the Samuel J. Friedman (261 West 47th Street). Immediately after the Friedman tribute event, a party will follow at Copacabana (268 West 47th Street). (more...)

Charlayne Woodard to Host BROADWAY BOUND at California African American Museum, May 6

The theatrics of Broadway are coming to the California African American Museum (CAAM) during their Target Sundays program, Broadway Bound, on Sunday, May 6, 2012, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. The event co-hosted by two-time Obie Award winner, Charlayne Woodard and actor Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter will feature veteran actors, singers and dancers of Broadway and an art workshop, hosted by local artist and educator Teresa Tolliver, beginning at noon. Three Finalists Chosen in August Wilson Monologue Competition Regional Finals

Fifteen local high school students from 10 different schools competed in the August Wilson Monologue Competition (AWMC) regional finals at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum, Monday night, March 26, 2012. LADCC Awards to Feature Performance of MY HUSBAND and SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE, 3/19

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle’s 43rd Annual Awards Show will take place on Monday, March 19, 2012 at A Noise Within in Pasadena. The show will feature performances from previously-announced hosts Jason Graae (recipient of the 2007 Joel Hirschhorn Award for outstanding achievement in musical theatre) and Lesli Margherita (nominee for Kiss Me, Kate). In addition, the Awards show will feature the Los Angeles premiere performance of My Husband, by Paul Rudnick, a short play added to the New York production of Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays. Also, Yvette Tucker and Salvatore Vasallo will perform an excerpt from “Slaughter on Tenth Avenue,” from On Your Toes, choreographed by this year’s Hirschhorn Award recipient, Lee Martino. (more...)

The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles, Orange County and Ventura County theatre for the year 2011. The 43rd Annual Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Awards ceremony will take place on Monday, March 19, 2012 at A Noise Within, the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, in its new 33,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art venue in Pasadena, thanks to the generous donation of A Noise WithinÂ’s management. The theatre is located on the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue at 3352 East Foothill Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91107. Tickets are $40, and should be reserved in advance from the LADCC's website, at www.ladramacriticscircle.com. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. for pre-show hors dÂ’oeuvres (with no-host bar), and the show commences at 7:30 p.m. (more...)

Rehearsals begin this week for "The Night Watcher," Charlayne Woodard's newest play, which will be produced at the Center Theatre Group/Kirk Douglas Theatre, November 17 through December 18, 2011.
