Audio drama podcast Playing on Air has announced its August 2020 mini-season, featuring four favorite short plays. After a successful spring season, Playing on Air brings back four audio gems.

Ensemble Studio Theatre, along with The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation (Doron Weber, Vice-President, Programs), announced today the 2018 Fall Artist Cultivation Event, marking the 20th anniversary of the EST/Sloan Project, to take place on Monday, November 19 at 8pm with a reception beginning at 7:30pm.

FOOD FOR THE GODS, written and directed by Nehprii Amenii, will perform two additional shows as part of La MaMa's celebrated Puppet Festival, November 15 - 18, at The Downtairs (66 E. 4 St.), in the East Village. Originally scheduled to perform Thursday, Nov. 15 at 8:30 p.m.; Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 17 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.; FOOD FOR THE GODS will play additional shows Saturday, Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m.

Playing On Air announced today the three winners of the inaugural James Stevenson Prize for comedic short plays. First Prize ($7,500, plus a Playing On Air recording for radio and podcast distribution) has been awarded to Hate Baby by Gracie Gardner. (Gardner is also the winner of the 2017 Relentless Award and author of the New York Times Critic's Pick Athena.) Second Prize ($2,000) has been awarded to Hedgehog Years by Lily Akerman. Third Prize ($1,000) has been awarded to Horse Latitudes (Who Wants to be an Equine Extra?) by Elizabeth Logun.

Penumbra Theatre proudly announces the regional premiere of This Bitter Earth, an arresting new work by award winning playwright Harrison David Rivers. This Bitter Earth opens on Thursday, April 26 and continues through Sunday, May 20. Previews are April 24 and 25. The historic Theatre Training Workshops of Woodie King, Jr.'s New Federal Theatre will move uptown next month to Dwyer Cultural Center at 258 St. Nicholas Ave. (at 123rd Street).  They were previously held in spaces adjoining the theater's offices at 292 Henry Street.  The workshops have been a fertile training ground for leading African-American playwrights and actors.
