Amas Musical Theatre Honors Eric Krebs Tonight by BWW News Desk - Apr 01, 2013
Amas Musical Theatre will celebrate its 44th Year with a Gala evening on Monday, April 1st, 2013 featuring a special concert by two-time Tony Nominee Christine Andreas with Martin Silvestri at the piano, titled LOVE IS GOOD. The event will honor legendary producer Eric Krebs with The Rosie Award and will take place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center, East 25th Street between Lexington and 3rd Avenues beginning at 6:30pm. The evening's host will be Broadway and television star Dan Lauria (Lombardi, A Christmas Story, The Wonder Years), and the emcee will be Tony and Olivier Award Nominee Tony Sheldon (Priscilla Queen of the Desert). Rep Stage, the professional Equity theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), continues its 20th anniversary season with 'Home,' Samm-Art Williams' brilliantly inventive, lyrically expressive play that tells the coming-of-age story of a young black man, Cephus Miles, from rural North Carolina. From beginning to end - and through tragedy and triumph - Cephus never loses his joyful goodwill, his indomitable spirit, and the conviction that one day his quest for fulfillment with be rewarded. 'Home' stars returning Rep Stage actors Felicia Curry and Fatima Quander, as well as Rep newcomer Robert Lee Hardy in the role of Cephus Miles. (more...)

Artist Series Presents THE CAPITOL STEPS, 2/5-10 by BWW

Thirty years ago, THE Capitol Steps began as a group of Senate staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the following years, many of the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ('Don't quit your day job!'), and although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of 18 Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. CABARET! Evening of Music, Songs and Laughter to Benefit Children's Theater 5/20 by BWW News Desk - Feb 02, 2013
The Columbia Center for Theatrical Arts (CCTA) will host CABARET!, an Evening of Music, Songs and Laughter on May 20, 2013 featuring members of The Capitol Steps and with performances by CCTA students and alumni. The event will be held at Toby's Dinner Theatre-Columbia beginning at 5:30pm with cocktails, dinner and a silent auction. Preceeds will benefit the children's theater Scholarship Fund and Outreach Programs that make quality arts programming accessible to youth in under-resourced communities. (more...)
