California Musical Theatre Announces LES MISERABLES Master Class

Orchestra conductor Larry Goldberg and a cast member from Cameron Mackintosh's new 25th anniversary production of the legendary musical Les Miserables will participate in a unique collaboration with members of Sacramento Youth Symphony and Sacramento Children's Chorus. The musical theatre professionals are in Sacramento for the touring Broadway show's two-week engagement at Community Center Theater, beginning on May 29. The Master Class, conducted by the California Musical Theatre Academy, will take place from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 31, in the Music Department at Rosemont High School in Sacramento. Broadway actress Hilary Maiberger, who plays the lead role of Belle in the touring production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, will visit Roy Herburger Elementary School in Elk Grove as part of the school's "Read A Book For Belle" contest, which is tied to their accelerated reading program. Maiberger will be at the school on Friday, March 8, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM to congratulate "Read A Book For Belle" contest winners and read to students in classrooms. (more...)

Ken Barnett, Jefferson Mays to Lead A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER at the Old Globe

The Old Globe today announced the complete cast and creative team for the world premiere of A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, a new musical comedy with book by Robert L. Freedman, music by Steven Lutvak and lyrics by Freedman and Lutvak. Former Old Globe Co-Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak returns to the Globe to direct the production. Based on the novel Israel Rank by Roy Horniman, the musical also features choreography by Peggy Hickey. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder will run March 8 - April 14, 2013 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run March 8 - March 12. Opening night is Wednesday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder is a co-production with Hartford Stage. Single tickets go on sale Sunday, Feb. 3 at 12 noon. California Musical Theatre Executive Producer Richard Lewis announced a varied lineup of musicals for the 2013 season of Sacramento Music Circus at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 63rd season for what has become a Northern California summer tradition. The five-show season will include the Music Circus premiere of the Kander and Ebb hit Chicago; a production of The Wizard of Oz based on the iconic movie; the Wells Fargo Pavilion premiere of the American theater masterpiece Show Boat; the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic The King and I; and Sugar, the stage version of the classic film comedy Some Like It Hot.
