EVIL DEAD is Most Definitely Alive; Remake Wins Weekend Box Office with $26 Million

EVIL DEAD may not have been as culturally decomposed as analysts previously thought. Despite lackluster reviews, (Manohla Dargis at The New York Times said the film 'has none of the first movie's handmade charm or hilarity, intentional or otherwise') Sam Raimi's remake of the hit 1981 dark horror-comedy outperformed initial expectations, taking in $26 million domestically.
