TED TALKS EDUCATION Airs on PBS Tonight by TV News Desk - May 07, 2013
TED, the non-profit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, and WNET, in partnership with PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), will co-produce TED's first-ever original television special this spring, featuring content created and curated exclusively for the show. The TED TALKS EDUCATION one-hour program will feature a mix of teachers and education advocates delivering short, high-impact talks on the theme of teaching and learning. The special was taped before a live audience on April 4, 2013 in the BAM Harvey Lichtenstein Theater of New York's Brooklyn Academy Of Music, and will air nationally on PBS tonight, May 7, 2013 at 10:00 p.m. EST. TED TALKS EDUCATION is part of American Graduate: Let's Make It Happen, a nationwide public media initiative made possible by CPB to help communities identify and implement solutions to the high school dropout crisis. The Award-Winning Epic Theatre Ensemble, now in their 12th year presents William Shakespeare's RICHARD III: Born With Teeth, part of Shakespeare for a New Generation, a national program of the National Endowment for the Arts in cooperation with Arts Midwest. The production, directed by Ron Russell, begins previews Off-Broadway on Tuesday, April 16th and opens Today, April 20th at 8:00 PM at the Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street). Due to strong demand, The Public Theater has announced a four week extension for the critically acclaimed world premiere musical HERE LIES LOVE, with concept and lyrics by David Byrne, music by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim, additional music by Tom Gandey and J Pardo, and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Directed by Alex Timbers, HERE LIES LOVE officially opened on Tuesday, April 23 and has been extended for a third time to Sunday, June 30. Young Audiences New York is hosting a panel discussion on the cognitive dissonance of living in a city that is arguably the cultural center of the world, yet many of its public school students have little or no contact with either the city's cultural wealth nor the opportunity to have the arts included in their education. The breakout session is part of the Young Audiences 60th Anniversary National Conference taking place in New York City April 25-27, 2013. It is titled, 'Abundance in a Time of Scarcity: Creative Solutions for Urban Arts Education.' (more...)

Ayub Khan Din Leads The New Group's BUNTY BERMAN PRESENTS…, Opening 5/9 by BWW News Desk - Apr 22, 2013
The New Group announced today that Ayub Khan Din has stepped into the title role in the new musical Bunty Berman Presents..., replacing actor Erick Avari who withdrew from the production last week on doctor's orders following an injury. The world premiere of this musical comedy, with book & lyrics by Ayub Khan Din and music by Ayub Khan Din and Paul Bogaev, is directed by Scott Elliott. Previews began April 12. Performances resume Wednesday, April 24 in advance of Official Opening Night on Thursday, May 9 at 7:00pm. A limited Off-Broadway engagement is slated through June 1 at The New Group at Theatre Row (The Acorn Theatre / 410 West 42nd Street). (more...)
