The Village Gate's Old-Fashioned Piano Party to Conclude 5/20

The Village Gate's Old-Fashioned Piano Party will play its last hurrah on Sunday, May 20, 9PM at The Gallery at le Poisson Rouge. The musical theatre themed open-mic night, created by Kevin Michael Murphy with music direction by Caleb Hoyer, has been delighting New York nightlife every Sunday night since October 2010. Over that time notable guests have included Kate Shindle, Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk, Adam Gown, Jason Michael Snow, Russell Fischer, and Jay Armstrong Johnson. (more...)

Playwrights Horizons' FAR FROM HEAVEN, TheatreWorks' WHEELHOUSE and More Awarded NAMT Grants

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces 15 awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its fourth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $48,000 to 14 organizations across the country. (more...)

Theatre legend Patti Lupone will open the new nightclub and restaurant 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street) with a two-week engagement from June 5 – 16. The June entertainment line-up also includes Jackie Hoffman, Mx Justin Vivian Bond and Brian d’Arcy James, as well as late-night lounge entertainment Tuesday – Thursday, a Monday night new composers series, and an informal cocktail hour on Sunday evenings. Prospect Theatre Co Presents One-Night Only Cabaret, FOOLS FOR LOVE, April 1

Prospect Theatre Company presents FOOLS FOR LOVE, a one-night-only concert performance celebrating April Fool’s Day, on Sunday April 1 at 7pm at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in the West Bank Cafe. Ticket prices for this event are $25 for regular general admission, $35 for premium reserved seating at the best tables in the house. Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts (ESPA), the company’s professional training school, has announced its Spring 2012 schedule of classes now open for enrollment. ESPA will offer new classes including Musical Theater Repertoire, Dialects Intensive, Advanced Scene Study: Chekhov in a Contemporary Climate, Musical Theater Collaboration, Directing and Producing for Film, Singing for the Non-Singer, and Solo Performance.
